Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.3 UEFI combined with tboot is not supported

Symptom

After installing RHEL 6.3 in UEFI mode, the system cannot boot up and the following error message appears:

    Invalid magic number: 0
    Error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format
    Press any key to continue...

Affected configurations

The above symptom is associated with, but not limited to, the following systems:

  • ThinkServer

Applies To:

  • RHEL 6.3

Confirm with Red Hat that RHEL 6.3 cannot boot in UEFI mode when “tboot” has been installed.

Solution

When installing RHEL 6.3, the user should install tboot-1.7.0-2.el6.x86_64.rpm as shown below:
