Configuring Bluetooth under Linux - ThinkPad T30, T40, T40p, A30p, A31p, X23, X24, X30, X31, R40

Symptom
Bluetooth does not work natively under Linux.

Affected configuration
The following ThinkPad systems running Linux, 2.4 or newer kernel, may experience this symptom:
  • ThinkPad A30p, A31p
  • ThinkPad R40
  • ThinkPad T30
  • ThinkPad T40, T40p
  • ThinkPad X23, X24, X30, X31

Solution
Some versions of Linux do not have full Bluetooth support built into the kernel. You can either upgrade to a recent version of Linux, such as Red Hat Linux 9.0, or you can download and install the driver yourself. The driver is provided by an open source project, at the following Web site:

This Web site has directions on how to install the driver yourself. You will want both the kernel module and the configuration utilities.
