How to enable and disable cookies

Cookies are text files sent by a Web server to an Internet browser and then sent back unchanged by the browser every time it accesses that particular server. Cookies are used for authenticating, tracking, and maintaining specific information about users, such as site preferences and settings.

Most modern browsers grant the user the option of accepting all, some, or no cookies at all. Below you will find information on how to enable and/or disable cookies in some of the most popular browsers in use today.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 7x/6x
  1. Click Tools, then click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Privacy tab.
  3. Under Settings, click the Advanced button.
  4. Check the box Override automatic cookie handling.
  5. Under First-party Cookies, select Accept, Block, or Prompt.
  6. Under Third-party Cookies, select Accept, Block, or Prompt.
  7. To allow session cookies, check Always allow session cookies.
  8. Click OK, then click OK to exit.

Internet Explorer 5x
  1. Click Tools, then click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Security tab.
  3. Click the Custom Level button.
  4. Find the Cookies section.
  5. To enable cookies, click Allow cookies to be stored on you computer, then click Allow per-session cookies.
    To disable cookies, click Allow cookies to be stored on you computer, then click Allow per-session cookies.
  6. Click OK.

Internet Explorer 4x
  1. Click View, then click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. Find Cookies within the Security section.
  4. To enable cookies, check Always accept cookies.
    To disable cookies, uncheck Always accept cookies.
  5. Click OK.

Mozilla Firefox 1.8/2.0
  1. Click Tools, then click Options.
  2. Click the Privacy icon.
  3. To enable cookies, check Accept cookies from sites.
    To disable cookies, uncheck Accept cookies from sites.
  4. Click OK.

  1. Click Tools, then click Options.
  2. Click Privacy.
  3. Expand the Cookies section.
  4. To enable cookies, check Enable cookies, and select Accept cookies normally.
    To disable cookies, uncheck Enable cookies, and select Accept cookies normally.
  5. Click OK.

  1. Click Edit, then click Preferences.
  2. Expand the Privacy & Security category.
  3. Select Cookies.
  4. Select Disable cookies, Enable cookies for the originating Web site only, Enable cookies based on privacy settings, or Enable all cookies.
  5. Click OK.

  1. Click Tools, then click Preferences.
  2. Click Cookies.
  3. Click the Advanced tab.
  4. Select Accept cookies, Accept cookies from the site I visit, or Never accept cookies.
  5. Click OK.

  1. Click Tools, then click Preferences.
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. Select Refuse all cookies, Let me decide every time I receive one, Treat as specified in server manager, or Accept all cookies.
    Note: If you choose to accept normal cookies, then you may specify the type of third party cookies you are willing to accept.
  4. Click OK.
