Guide to setup Windows Vista - Notebooks

This document describes the steps for installing Microsoft Windows Vista operating system and updating the system BIOS and drivers on ThinkPad and 3000 Family notebook computers. The document also contains hints, tips, and limitations found during testing of Windows Vista on the notebook computers specified in this documentation. In some cases, the document will suggest that you take steps prior to installing or upgrading Windows Vista. Therefore, it is recommended that you read the entire document before installing Windows Vista, and follow the instructions given.

System requirements

Notebook computers that are upgradeable to Windows Vista

Lenovo has tested and confirmed the listed notebook computers are upgradeable from Windows XP SP2 to Windows Vista. However, some models of the platforms listed below do not meet the minimum system requirements, and will not be upgradeable.

  • ThinkPad R series
    • R50, R50e, R50p, R51, R51e, R52, R60, R60e
  • ThinkPad T series
    • T41, T41p, T42, T42p, T43, T43p, T60, T60p
  • ThinkPad X series
    • X40, X41, X41 Tablet, X60, X60s, X60 Tablet
  • ThinkPad Z series
    • Z60m, Z60t, Z61m, Z61e, Z61p, Z61t
  • 3000 Family notebook series
    • C200, N100, V100
Check if your computer is ready to upgrade to Windows Vista

Before upgrading your computer to Windows Vista, it is recommended to run Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor on your computer. The Upgrade Advisor scans your computer to check if your computer is ready to upgrade to Windows Vista. Check if your application software is compatible with Windows Vista

You will also need to check if all of your necessary software applications are compatible with Windows Vista. Visit the Web sites of the manufacturers of the application software for the compatibility information. You may also want to check Microsoft's Windows Vista home page for any known compatibility issues of the application software.
