G480 G580 BIOS version differences

Statement Description

Some customers that bought GX8X notebooks may experience an issue of not being able to enter BIOS. One of the solutions is a BIOS update to the latest version, but there are 2 different BIOS updates. Which one fits which system?  Customers do not know which bios version to choose.

Affected configurations

Lenovo G480/G580/G485/G585

Solution

1. First of all we need to clarify which BIOS version is installed in the notebook. In case that the installed version is lower than the one we can offer from our website/ftp/Gdrive, we should choose between 2 different versions – “compal” and “wistron”.

2. In order to select the correct one we need to know which one is the manufacturer of the motherboard on a specified notebook. Serial number will tell us what we need. If serial number looks like “WBxxxxxxxx” – then the manufacturer of this motherboard is Wistron, if serial number looks like “CBxxxxxxxx” – then the manufacturer is Compal. Wistron version number will be similar to 62CNxxWW, Compal number will be close to 5ECNxxWW.
