Wake-On-LAN will not wake up the system if it has not been shut down properly. Improper shutdown can occur by forcing the system to power off before the operating system has had a chance to shutdown.
All ThinkCentre and NetVista systems with Microsoft Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Home, Windows 2000 Professional with service pack, Windows NT 4.0 with service packs, Windows Millennium Edition, or Windows 9x.
- If a system is in the "off" state with Wake on LAN (WoL) not working, the quickest way to enable WoL is to remove and restore AC power (this works for the on-board ethernet and all adapters that support the "D3 cold" state). Or
- Boot the system to the operating system and then perform a proper shutdown.
