How to access the System Configuration Utility - Desktops
System Configuration Utility

The System Configuration Utility is sometimes referred to as the Setup Utility program.

Note: A customized setup configuration (other than default settings) might exist on the computer you are servicing. Running the System Configuration Utility might alter those settings. Note the current configuration settings and verify that the settings are in place when service is complete.

The System Configuration Utility is stored in the permanent memory of the computer. This program includes settings for the following:

  • System Summary
  • Product Data
  • Devices and I/O Ports
  • Start Options
  • Date and Time
  • System Security
  • Advanced Setup
  • Power Management
NetVista systems

To run the System Configuration Utility, use the following procedure.

  1. Power off the computer and wait for a few seconds until all in-use lights go off. The option to run the System Configuration Utility does not appear if the computer is not cold booted.
  2. Power on the computer.
  3. When the System Configuration Utility prompt appears on the screen during startup, press F1. The System Configuration Utility menu will appear. If an administrator password has been set, a limited menu appears on the screen. In this case, to access the full System Configuration Utility menu, you must enter the administrator password.
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  5. When finished, select System Summary to verify that any configuration changes have been accepted.
