Upgrading Password Manager to Microsoft Windows 8 - All ThinkCentre, ThinkPad

 

Symptom

Instructions on upgrading Password Manager or Client Security Solution to Password Manager 4.2 and instructions on reinstalling Password Manager 4.2 when upgrading from Microsoft Windows 7 to Windows 8.

Affected configurations

The above symptom is associated with the following systems:

  • All ThinkCentre
  • All ThinkPad

System is configured with:

  • All ThinkCenter and ThinkPad systems with the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system and Password Manager or Client Security Solution installed

Operating Systems
  • Microsoft Windows 7
  • Microsoft Windows Embedded Standard 7
  • Microsoft Windows 8
Solutions

The user must upgrade the ThinkVantage Password Manager program or the ThinkVantage Client Security Solution program to the ThinkVantage Password Manager 4.2 program when upgrading from Microsoft Windows 7 operating system to the Windows 8 operating system.

If the user has installed Password Manager 4.2, it is recommended to reinstall the program when upgrading Microsoft Windows 7 to Windows 8.

The user must first download Password Manager 4.2 from the Lenovo eSupport site.

To upgrade Password Manager or Client Security Solution to Password Manager 4.2 or to reinstall Password Manager 4.2, perform one of the following:

  • If the user has not upgraded Microsoft Windows 7 to Windows 8, perform the following:

    1. Start Password Manager or Client Security Solution that is currently installed on the system and export the password entries.  Then, uninstall Password Manager or Client Security Solution.
    2. Upgrade the Microsoft Windows 7 operating system to the Windows 8 operating system.
    3. Install Password Manager 4.2 that was downloaded and import the password entries that were exported.
  • If the user has upgraded Microsoft Windows 7 to Windows 8, perform the following:
    1. Start Password Manager or Client Security Solution that is currently installed on the system and export the password entries.  Then, uninstall Password Manager or Client Security Solution.
    2. Install Password Manager 4.2 that was downloaded and import the password entries that were exported.

NOTE:  To ensure upgrading Password Manager or Client Security Solution successfully or to ensure reinstalling Password Manager 4.2 successfully, it is recommended to export the password entries and uninstall Password Manager or Client Security Solution before upgrading Microsoft Windows 7 to Windows 8.
