SYMPTOM:

When adding a network printer, the following message pops up: "The print spooler service is not running."

AFFECTED CONFIGURATIONS:

The above symptom may occur on the following systems:

All Lenovo Idea laptops running on Windows Vista

SOLUTION:

1. Click "Control Panel" à "Administrative Tools" à "Services" à "Printer Spooler". Then set "Startup type" as "Automatic".

2. Manually execute cmd

net stop spooler

del %SystemRoot%\system32\spool\PRINTERS\*.*

net start spooler

3. Ensure the printer model and drivers are supported in Windows Vista.

4. The client computer to share the printer must be also installed with Windows Vista to ensure the compatibility between the operating system and the drivers.

5. Disable the function of sharing the printer across a network. Reconnect the printer with the host computer and restart.
