Unable to reset Windows 8 from USB driver after HDD replaced with a new one or original partitions deleted

Statement Description

For those Idea Notebooks preloaded Windows 8, users can create a recovery drive in windows 8 with USB drive. However, while doing the system reset with the USB drive after HDD replaced or original partition deleted, system can not do the fully recovery and pop up Error message "Unable to reset your PC. A required drive partition is missing." 

 

Affected configurations

All IdeaPad Notebook series that preloads with windows 8 and OKR8.0 version is older than 8.0.0.1219, e.g. 8.0.0.0710 .

  

Solution

Lenovo OneKey Recovery that is older than 8.0.0.1219 does not support recovery from USB recovery drive after HDD replaced with a new one or original HDD partitions deleted.  You can use Lenovo RDVD to recovery system under this condition to install OS to the HDD. A: Click the “i” button on top right corner of OKR window, you can check the OKR version, as Fig.1 shown below.
