The Microsoft Windows clock on the taskbar loses time when the computer is left on for an extended amount of time. The system clock does not lose time, so rebooting the system will show the correct time on the taskbar clock.

This document applies to any Thinkpad system running Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows 98 Second Edition

I. Additional information
The system time is maintained by the Real Time Clock (RTC). The operating system clock on the taskbar only synchronizes with the RTC during power up, resume from suspend, or resume from hibernation. Certain applications or functions can interfere with the operation of the operating system clock. Since the clock does not update with the RTC, the interference becomes cumulative and can result in a substantial loss of time.

This utility updates the operating system clock with the RTC on regular intervals so that no loss of time shows.

II. Installation instructions
Add the following patch utility below to the Startup folder so that it starts every time the system is powered on.
  1. Start Windows 95/98
  2. Click Start, then click Settings and then click Taskbar & Start Menu... The Taskbar Properties window appears.
  3. Click the Add.. button. The Create Shortcut window appears.
  4. In the command line box, type C:\YPTF075.EXE . If you downloaded the file to a different location, enter that location instead. Click the Next button.
  5. In the "Select folder to place shortcut in:" box, scroll through the list and select StartUp. Click the Next button.
  6. In the "Select a name for the shortcut:", type in "Windows Clock Patch" without the quote marks and click Finish.
  7. Click OK to close the Taskbar Properties window.
