System wakes up from Hibernation mode when opening the lid - ThinkPad
Symptom

Users will experience that some ThinkPad systems will wake up from Hibernation mode when opening the lid

 

Affected configurations

The above symptom is associated with, but not limited to, the following systems:

  • ThinkPad L430, L530
  • ThinkPad S430
  • ThinkPad T430, T430i, T430s, T430si
  • ThinkPad T530, T530i
  • ThinkPad W530
  • ThinkPad X1 Carbon (Type 34xx)
  • ThinkPad X131e
  • ThinkPad X230, X230i, X230 Tablet, X230i Tablet
  • ThinkPad Edge S430

The system is configured with:

  • Power source (AC mode, DC mode)

Applies to:

  • All Operating Systems

 

Additional Information

The system enters the Hibernation mode after one hour in the Standby mode. The purpose is to conserve the battery power in the Sleep mode. This feature is for the convenience of the user. The ThinkPad systems wake up from the Hibernation mode by opening the lid.

 

Solution

None.

 

Workaround

To keep the system in Hibernation mode in each Power Plan:

  1. Open Power Manager.
  2. Click the Advanced button of Switch to:.
  3. Select the Global Power Settings tab.
  4. Confirm the uncheck for Apply the settings to all Power Plan of the Events section.
  5. Select the Power Plan tab.
  6. Select the Power Plan you desire to change the setting.
  7. Select the Events section.
  8. Set the lid closed using the Do nothing feature.
  9. Click the OK button.

To keep the system in Hibernation mode in Global Power Settings (This method will also apply the settings of Fn+F4 (Sleep) and Power button to all Power Plans.):

  1. Open Power Manager.
  2. Click the Advanced" button of "Switch to:.
  3. Select the Global Power Settings tab.
  4. Select the Events section.
  5. Check Apply the settings to all Power Plans.
  6. Set the lid closed using the Do nothing feature.
  7. Click the OK button.

NOTE:

  • If the lid closed action is set to “Do nothing”, the system does not wake up by opening the lid.
  • If the lid closed action is set to “Do nothing”, the system does not sleep, hibernate, or shutdown by closing the lid.
