Ethernet LEDs do not respond as expected - ThinkCentre A50 (type 8084, 8085, 8126, 8147, 8148, 8149, 8174, 8175, 8176, 8177, 8178)

Symptom

Ethernet LAN light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have reverse actions, as the activity LED is green and flickers, while the speed LED is solid orange at 100Mbps.

Affected configurations

Any of the following systems running Microsoft Windows 2000 or XP, configured to use the onboard RJ-45 Ethernet LAN connection:

ThinkCentre A50 (type 8084, 8085, 8126, 8147, 8148, 8149, 8174, 8175, 8176, 8177, 8178)

Solution

No hardware should be replaced. The Ethernet LAN LEDs are working as designed.
