How to use CFGEDIT tool - ThinkCentre M58, M58p

M58/M58P password is not stored within the CMOS image, so the user cannot restore a CMOS image with a password.

Affected configurations

Any of the following systems running Microsoft Windows XP Home, Windows XP Professional or Windows Vista, but not limited to the following:

  • ThinkCentre M58 (type 6302, 6239, 6258, 6303, 7174, 7244, 7354, 7355, 7360, 7373, 7627, 7628, 7638, 7639, 8910, 9960)
  • ThinkCentre M58p (type 6137, 6138, 6209, 6234, 7188, 7220, 7346, 7347, 7357, 7358, 7483, 7484, 7630, 7635, 9964, 9965)

None. Do not replace any hardware for this issue.

CFGEDT5C can be obtain from the system srwin BIOS utility 5CJW48USA.exe or newer.

To set a password using the CFGEDT5C utility.


 [/Pap XXXX][/newpap]
 [/cmosTokenName]: CMOS token name defined in CFGEDT5C.def
 [cmosTokenNameSettings]: Specific CMOS setting
 [/Pap XXXX]: XX is the keyboard scan code in hex
  : for the administrative password
 [/Newpap XXXX]: XX is the keyboard scan code in hex
  : for the new administrative password

Example1: CFGEDT5C /cmosDiskettelessMode enable

Sets the Bios Setup option Disketteless Mode to enabled

Example2: CFGEDT5C /newpap 19181908

Adds the admin password PAP7
