Screen brightness unexpectedly dims after returning from a screen saver - ThinkCentre A58, A62, A63, A70, M58, M58p, M58e, M90, M90p

When the system returns from a Windows screen saver, the screen brightness becomes unexpectedly dim. Once this happens, the user may see the brightness setting with an abnormal value on the OSD (On Screen Display) such as 255.

Affected configurations

Any of the following systems but not limited to the following systems:

  • ThinkCentre A58, A62, A63, A70, M58, M58p, M58e, M90, M90p

Applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows XP Professional
  • Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

The system is configured when all of the following conditions are met:

  • Set Windows Screen Saver with password protection on resume.
  • Power Manager is set to Dynamic Brightness Control with Screen saver.
  • ThinkVision L197 Wide (M/T 4434).
Additional Information

When clicking on the mouse button or keyboard to break the screen saver condition:

  1. You will see the screen become return to the Windows logon prompt with a bright screen as usually. Then, proceed to Logon. - Approx. 10 seconds after the logon, the screen brightness goes dim unexpectedly. - Check the Brightness on the LCD display using the OSD. It shows 255. The scale is pointing in the middle of the brightness control bar.



Do not replace any hardware for this issue.

Update the Desktop Power Manager for Windows XP (32-bit) to 1.04.0024 or later.

  1. Start > All Programs > ThinkVantage > Power Manager
  2. Switch to "Advanced"
  3. Select Global Power Settings
  4. Locate "Dynamic Brightness Control"
  5. Uncheck "Screen saver" '

| You can automatically decrease the screen brightness in
| specific situation that you have selected. Select one or
| more of the situations from the following list:
| ( ) Logoff
| (v) Screen Lock
| (v) Screen saver
