When you install the RnR program on Windows 7 64-bit operating system, a message displays, saying you can launch the defragmentation program (Disk Defragmenter) to make the Rescue and Recovery program more efficient. After you click Analyze for defragmentation, the Disk Defragmenter program does not work. To solve the problem, launch the Disk Defragmenter program by clicking Start > All Programs (or Programs) > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter.
After uninstalling Client Security Solution and then reinstalling it, an error message will display when RnR is launched. If you upgrade a Windows Vista system with CSS and RnR to Windows 7, reinstall RnR, and then reinstall CSS, RnR will be corrupted. To resolve this issue, please reinstall RnR.
While creating a backup, RnR will display a warning message, indicating that the backup is not complete. This is due to the free disk space of the system is less than 300 MB. Make sure the free disk space is bigger than 300 MB before taking a backup.
In the advanced RnR user interface, you select a partition with smaller capacity on your local hard disk drive as the backup location. Then, you switch to the simplified Rescue and Recovery user interface to create the backup. However, the backup is created on the partition with the largest capacity. Make sure the free disk space is bigger than 300 MB before taking a backup. To solve the problem, back up your system through the advanced Rescue and Recovery user interface after you select the backup location.
When you create a backup on a USB memory key, it takes much more time than creating a backup on a USB hard disk drive. This is because creating a backup on a USB memory key takes lots of input/output operations. To solve the problem, it is recommended to use a Lenovo(R) USB memory key or create the backup on a USB hard disk drive.
The Create Rescue Media program supports USB key from RnR 4.30. If the user tries to create rescue media on specific USB key (non Lenovo), an internal error might be encountered that the MBR data is not formatted or cleaned by vendor. Fully format the USB key device, such as: - Launch CMD prompt, type "diskpart"
- Type "select disk N (N is the disk number of the USB key)"
- Type "clean"
When you create rescue media on a 64 GB USB memory key and then boot from the memory key, an error message displays, saying "Error loading Operating System." To solve the problem, change the 64 GB USB memory key to one with less storage capacity.
The progress bar doesn't display while RnR is taking a scheduled backup even when the user opens the simplified GUI of RnR. The progress bar will only display when the user launches the advanced GUI, and it won't work for simplified GUI.
The user cannot enter RnR PDA and report bootmgr missing error after enabling Bitlocker and encrypting hard disk drives. The user performs the clean installation of Windows 7 or the upgrade from Lenovo Preload Windows XP/Windows Vista system. After installing RnR and enabling Bitlocker to encrypt hard disk drives, the user cannot enter LOCAL PDA anymore. The action of enabling Bitlocker will remove the RnR boot configuration data entry to PDA. To solve the problem, reinstall RnR after enabling Bitlocker.
The user shrinks the system drive to less than 1 GB free disk space, makes a base backup, and restores from it. During the restore process, RnR will display an error message, saying "Insufficient disk space on drive" RnR is trying to restore every file to that partition, but the space of that partition is not big enough to locate all files from the backup. The real total size of all files on system drive is larger than the space of that partition. Make sure there is at least 1 GB free space on the partition before the restore.
If the user installs RnR on the local system, attaches a 2nd hard disk drive which contains an operating system, and press F11 or the blue ThinkVantage button, the user cannot enter local PDA. This is because Boot Manager doesn't know from which drive it should boot to PDA. To solve the problem, detach the 2nd hard disk drive and then restart the computer.
If your computer is not connected to an ac power adapter, when you use the rejuvenate function of the Rescue and Recovery(R) program, an error message will display, saying "The scheduled backup could not be taken because the mobile system is not connected to AC power." After you click OK, the computer will reboot to the pre-desktop area (PDA). To solve the problem, connect the computer to an ac adapter and perform the rejuvenate operation again.
On a preloaded Windows 7 operating system, when you use the Windows Backup and Restore function to create a system image on external media, such as a USB hard disk drive, and then restore the system from the created image, the system cannot enter Pre Desktop Area (PDA) either by pressing F11 or the ThinkVantage button. To solve the problem, reinstall the Rescue and Recovery program.
