This section provides instructions on how to replace the system board.

1. Open the computer cover. See "Cover removal".
2. Take note of the location of all cable connectors on the system board and disconnect all cables. See "Locating parts on the system board".
3. Press inward on the two side tabs and then pivot the system board to release it from the chassis.

4. Remove the heat sink and fan assembly from the system board. See "Heat sink removal and installation".
5. Remove the screws that secure the system board to the cover.
6. Lift the system board off of the cover.
7. Remove the memory modules from the failing system board and install them in the same location on the new system board. See "Memory removal and installation".
8. Remove the heat sink and microprocessor from the failing system board and install them on the new system board. See "Microprocessor removal and installation".
   Note: You might have to install a new retention module on the new system board.
9. Position the new system board in the chassis so that the screw holes are aligned with the mounting studs.
10. Install and tighten the screws that secure the system board to the chassis.
11. Reconnect all cables to the system board. See "Locating parts on the system board".
12. Go to "Completing the FRU replacement".
