Hinge cover removal and installation - ThinkPad G40, G41

Removing the hinge cover

  1. Turn off the computer, or enter hibernation mode.
    Note: If you are using a PC Card, the computer might not be able to enter hibernation mode. If this happens, turn off the computer.
  2. Then disconnect the AC adapter and all cables from the computer.
  3. Remove the battery pack.
  4. Remove the keyboard.
  5. Remove the middle cover.
    Note: ThinkPads systems with 802.11 a/b cards will have T7 torx screws preventing anyone but an authorized servicer from removing the middle cover.
  6. Push the hinge cover backwards (1).
  7. Keeping the hinge cover pressed and push it upwards from the back (2).
  8. Hinge cover pops up (3).

Installing the hinge cover

  1. Reinstall the hinge cover, reverse steps (3) and (2) in the picture.
  2. Reinstall the middle cover.
  3. Reinstall the keyboard.
  4. Reinstall the battery pack.
  5. Reconnect AC adapter and all cables from the computer that may have been removed in step 2 of removing the hinge cover.
