Removing the middle cover

  1. Turn off the computer, or enter hibernation mode.
    Note: If you are using a PC Card, the computer might not be able to enter hibernation mode. If this happens, turn off the computer.
  2. Then disconnect the AC adapter and all cables from the computer.
  3. Remove the battery pack.
  4. Remove the keyboard.
  5. Remove the screw (1) from the base of the ThinkPad.
    Note: ThinkPads systems with 802.11 a/b cards will have T7 torx screws preventing anyone but an authorized servicer from removing the middle cover.
  6. Remove the middle cover in the direction of the arrow (2).

Installing the middle cover

  1. Reseat the middle cover.
  2. Reinstall the screws (1) securing the middle cover.
  3. Reinstall the keyboard.
  4. Reinstall the battery pack.
  5. Reconnect AC adapter and all cables from the computer that may have been removed in step 2 of removing the middle cover.
