The latest models of the ThinkPad i Series 1200 notebook computers are designed for the needs of students, small businesses, and those who work at home. With their sleek design, these are the most affordable computer notebooks in the ThinkPad line. The latest systems include faster processors and DVD-ROMs on selected models.

Internet and ease-of-use innovations
The TrackPoint pointing device with the Internet Scroll Bar makes it easy to scroll Web pages and large documents. With the Press-to-Select feature, you press the TrackPoint pointer to select and launch programs, helping you to reduce keystrokes. Color-coded Easy Launch buttons take you to useful Web pages(7) designed by IBM and Lycos, or launch your favorite programs with the touch of a button. The ThinkPad Button launches Access ThinkPad and ThinkPad Assistant(TM).

The ThinkPad i Series 1200 notebooks integrate a two-spindle design with either a DVD-ROM or CD-ROM and hard disk drive (HDD) along with a 56 K V.90 modem in one convenient package weighing about 2.7 kg (6 lb). Optional diskette, Zip, and LS-120 SuperDisk drives are available.

Instant productivity
ThinkPad i Series notebooks come with Microsoft Windows Me preloaded and a variety of software applications(9), including Lotus(R) SmartSuite(R) Millennium.

For Intel Mobile Pentium III processors with SpeedStep technology, MHz speed denotes maximum performance mode; battery-optimized performance mode is approximately 80% of maximum performance.
2. Expandable using a single optional 32, 64, or 128 MB 100 MHz SDRAM module.
3. GB equals one billion bytes when referring to HDDs. Accessible capacity may vary.
4. This V.90 modem can receive data up to 56 Kbps from a compatible service provider, transmitting data up to 31.2 Kbps. Public networks currently limit maximum download speeds to about 53 Kbps. Actual speeds depend on many factors and are often less than the maximum possible.
5. Communications supported through optional PC card.
6. Variable read rate. Actual playback speed will vary and is often less than the maximum possible.

Keyboard and TrackPoint
Ergonomically designed for comfort, the ThinkPad i Series 1200 features a full-sized 85-key keyboard with a roomy sculpted palm rest. The TrackPoint with Press-to-Select provides accurate and convenient pointer and cursor control; pressing the TrackPoint speeds program launches and helps you to reduce keystrokes. The Internet scroll bar liberates you from the stationary scroll bar at the side of the window and allows for quick Web page scrolling. It even works on documents and spreadsheets.

Mobile Pentium(R) III processor at 650 MHz featuring Intel Speedstep(R) technology with two performance modes:

• Pentium III processor offers maximum performance mode for top performance while connected to external power.
• Battery-optimized performance mode for balance between performance and battery life when operating on battery power. In this mode the MHz speed is reduced to approximately 80% of maximum performance (MHz speed) with approximately 50% of the power consumption to conserve battery power.
• Alternate choice is Mobile Celeron processor at 600 or 550 MHz.

Memory
The ThinkPad i Series 1200 uses non-parity, 64-bit SDRAM 100 MHz memory. Standard memory is 32 or 64 MB, expandable with a 128 MB card to a maximum of 160 or 192 MB.

PCMCIA
The Type III slot can accommodate either one Type I, one Type II, or one Type III PC card. CardBus PC Card or Zoomed Video Port PC Card is supported.

Audio
The audio subsystem is enhanced with 16-bit stereo audio that supports Sound Blaster Pro. It features built-in stereo speakers and a fast CD-ROM or DVD Drive Quality speakers are located on the bottom of the display to direct sound right at the listener and provide maximum stereo separation.

Universal serial bus (USB) port
These systems have a standard complement of ports (enhanced parallel, external display, and USB). There are two USB ports for connecting to external peripherals.

Video
The 12.1-inch HPA model has LynxEM+ graphics with 2 MB of video memory; all other models have LynxEM4+ graphics with 4 MB of video memory for captivating presentations.

Modem
The 56 K V.90 integrated modem enables easy connection to the Internet.
