The 8Xmax Internal IDE DVD-ROM Drive with MPEG-2 software enables video file decoding and playback on selected PC 300 GL/PL and Aptiva systems when running Microsoft Windows 95 OSR2, Windows 98, and Windows NT 4.0. Its 8Xmax speed, increases DVD data entry to 10,800 Kbps, optimizing DVD media applications for video, graphics, imaging and very large data files.

If MPEG-2 video playback is not a requirement, the drive can also be installed in a wide range of third-party systems to read DVD data disks and CD-ROM disks.

  1. All models with PII processors 333 MHz and above are supported. The color of the supplied drive is white.
  2. Best performance is achieved on models with G200 video cards. Models with slower processors, or not outfitted with G200 video card or motion compensation chip, may experience some frames drop when viewing MPEG-2 scenes with high information content.
  3. Qualified for Microsoft Windows 95 OSR2 and Windows 98 only.

For MPEG-2 video file decoding and playback with MPEG-2 software program Microsoft Windows 95 OSR2, 98, and NT 4.0.

Supported operating systems

  • OS/2 Warp 3.0, or later
  • DOS 6.0, or later (However, in this configuration, the drive is limited to reading CD-ROMs or DATA DVD disks)

The DVD-ROM drive is compatible with the following CD formats:

  • CD Audio disks
  • CD-I disks
  • Photo CD disks
  • Video CD disks
  • CD-R disks
  • CD-RW disks
  • DVD-RAM disks; read only.
  • Some configurations may not be compatible.

This option kit, comprised of a DVD-ROM drive bundled with an MPEG-2 software player, is fully functional on those systems listed in the Hardware Requirements section running Microsoft Windows 95 OSR2, Windows 98, and Windows NT 4.0. On all other systems and operating systems for which the MPEG-2 player is not supported, the drive can be used as a CD-ROM and DVD DATA disk reader only.
