The 6X MAX Internal IDE DVD-ROM Drive with MPEG2 Software provides video file decoding and playback through the MPEG2 software program. The MPEG2 software package provides the following features:

  • DVD region code can be changed up to five times
  • Supports CSS-compliant copy protection
  • Reads DVD media from 4.7 GB to 17 GB
If MPEG2 video playback is not a requirement, the drive can be used to read DVD data discs on a broad range of systems. The 32X-14X CD-ROM function of the drive provides an optical solution that can handle today's mainstream CD-ROM applications and is equipped to advance to the new applications of DVD-ROM technology for today and for the future. 6X-2X variable read rate. Actual playback speed will vary and is often less than the maximum possible.

Hardware Requirements:
The 6X MAX Internal IDE DVD-ROM Drive with MPEG2 Software is supported on the following platforms:  

  • PC 300 PL (6862, 6892)
  • PC 300 GL (6267, 6277, 6287, 6285)


  1. All models with processors 333 MHz and above are supported. The color of the supplied drive is white.
  2. Best performance is achieved on models with G200 video cards. Models with slower processors or not outfitted with a G200 video card or a motion compensation chip may experience some frames drop when viewing MPEG2 scenes with high information content.

Supported Operating Systems:
For MPEG2 video file decoding and playback with MPEG2 Software program:  

  • Microsoft Windows 98
  • Windows 95 OSR2
NOTE: The drive, by itself, can be installed and will work in systems running OS/2 Warp 3.0 or later, Windows NT(R) 4.0 or later, DOS 6.0 or later. However, in this configuration, the drive is limited to reading CD-ROMs or DATA DVD discs.
The DVD-ROM drive is compatible with the following CD formats:
  • CD-ROM mode-1 data discs
  • CD-ROM XA discs
  • CD Audio discs
  • CD-I discs
  • Photo CD discs
  • Video CD discs

NOTE: All configurations may not be compatible.
This option kit, comprised of a DVD-ROM drive bundled with an MPEG2 software player, is fully functional on those systems listed in the Hardware Compatibility section running Windows 95 OSR2, or Windows 98. On all other systems and operating systems that the MPEG2 player is not supported, the drive can be used as a CD-ROM and DVD DATA disc reader only.
