This document contains instructions for removing and installing the modem card on the ThoinkPad A21e (2655) and A22e series systems.

NOTE: Disconnect the ThinkPad system AC adapter and remove the battery before proceeding.

Removing the modem

Step 1: Using a small, Phillips head screw driver, remove the screw illustrated. Keep the screw in a safe place.

Step 2: Remove the plastic cover, to expose the Mini PCI adapter.

Step 3: Remove the metal brace covering the Mini PCI adapter and set it aside as shown below

Step 4: Push out the small metal clips, located at both sides of the adapter. This should cause the adapter to pop up.

Step 5: Carefully disconnect the small cables shown in part five of the illustration, from the adapter.
NOTE: Do not pull the cables out of, or away from the ThinkPad system itself, as they may become dislodged from the inside.

Step 6: Slide the adapter out vertically, holding it on the side edges with your finger. Try not to touch the components on the device itself.

Replacement
To replace your Mini PCI adapter with a replacement or other device, simply follow the above instructions in reverse. Try to avoid contact with the circuitry of the devices, and do not remove the plastic shielding placed on them.
