Installing Windows 2000 and its device drivers - TransNote

To install Microsoft Windows (R) 2000 and its software on your computer, do as follows:

If you are using an external CD- or DVD drive that is supported by Windows 2000, such as IBM Portable CD-ROM drive CD-20X, do the following:

  1. Start the system.
  2. Make Windows 2000 setup boot disks.
  3. At the DOS prompt, type the following: RUN scr_cd:\bootdisk\MakeBoot.exe where scr_CD is the letter of the CD-ROM drive of your computer.
  4. Then follow the instructions on the screen.
  5. Insert Windows 2000 setup boot disk 1 in the external diskette drive, and restart the system. Follow the instructions on the screen.

If you are using an external CD- or DVD-ROM drive that is not supported by Windows 2000, do the following:

  1. Start the system in DOS mode.
  2. Insert the Windows 2000 Professional CD into the external CD-ROM drive.
  3. Make a temporary directory.
    For example, at the DOS prompt, type the following:
    MD c:\win2000
  4. Copy all the cabinet (.CAB) files and installation programs from the Windows 2000 CD-ROM to the temporary directory.
    At the DOS prompt, type the following: XCOPY src_CD:\i386 c:\win2000 /S where scr_CD is the letter of the CD-ROM drive of your computer, and c:\win2000 is the temporary directory that was created in step 2.
  5. At the DOS prompt, type the following: c:\win2000\WinNT
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen.

After installing Windows 2000, install Windows 2000 SP1, provided by Microsoft (R). Refer to the document in it on how to install Windows 2000 SP1.

After installing Windows 2000 and Windows 2000 SP1.

You will need each of the files that are listed in the following table to ensure proper operation of your TransNote system. Click the package name to download the files.

Applying IBM LCD Color Profile

  1. Start Windows 2000.
  2. Extract the supplement package onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click right button on desktop to open Display Properties.
  4. Click Settings tab.
  5. Click Advanced.
  6. Click Monitor tab, then Properties.
  7. Click Driver tab, then Update Driver. Upgrade Device Driver Wizard starts.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Select Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver.
  10. Click Next.
  11. Click Have Disk.
  12. Click Browse, and search the location where the file IBMTPLCD.INF exits.
  13. Click Open.
  14. Click IBMTPLCD.INF and then click OK.
  15. Click Next.
  16. Click Next at start device driver installation wizard.
  17. Click Finish.
  18. Click Close.

Installing Audio driver

  1. Start Windows 2000.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.
  4. Double-click the System Icon. Then click the Hardware tab.
  5. Click the Device Manager Tab.
  6. If you find "Crystal Sound Fusion(TM) CS4281 WDM Audio", then the audio driver has already been installed.
  7. If you find "Multimedia Audio Controller" under the Other Devices, then click the Multimedia Audio Controller to select it and click the Properties button.
  8. Click the Driver Tab and then the Update Driver button.
  9. Click Next twice in the Device Driver Update Wizard Window.
  10. Specify the location of the Disk by the path name in the step 2 and click Next.
  11. If you are asked, specify the location of the Disk in "Copy files from:" list and click OK. The file copy starts.
  12. After the installation of Crystal SoundFusion(TM) CS4281 WDM Audio, click Finish. The system will detect New Hardware.

Installing video driver
NOTE: You must install the video driver and the Touchboard driver and Screen rotation driver in the order given.

  1. Start Windows 2000 and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Extract the video drivers onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, then click Run.
  4. In the Run dialog window, type C:\DRIVERS\W2K\DISPLAY\SETUP.EXE to install the video driver. Click the OK button to start the installation process. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead.
  5. At the Welcome window click Next.
  6. At the Software License Agreement window, if you agree, click Yes. This will start the installation process.
  7. At the Setup Complete window, put a check mark in Yes, I want to restart my computer now, and click Finish.
  8. Restart the system.

Installing touchboard driver

  1. Start Windows 2000
  2. Click Start, then click Run, and select the browse button.
  3. Search for the subdirectory you extracted the new TouchBoard package.
  4. Select Setup, and then click the Open button
  5. Click OK to start the install
  6. Answer the screens as follows: Next, Yes (for License), Next (for Destination), Next (for Folder), and Finish.

Installing Screen rotation driver

  1. Start Windows 2000.
  2. Extract the driver onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, then click Run.
  4. In the Open field, type C:\DRIVERS\Win\PIVOT\SETUP.EXE to install the pivot driver. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead.
  5. Click the OK button to start the installation process. The Pivot Software Setup dialog box appears.
  6. Click Install. Files will now be copied.
  7. Click Exit.
  8. Click Yes to restart the system.

Installing On screen utility

  1. Start Windows 2000 and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, then click Run.
  4. Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ONSCR\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and click the OK button.
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen.

Installing configuration utility

  1. Start Windows 2000 and log on with administrative privilege.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, then click Run.
  4. In the Open field, type C:\DRIVERS\W9X\UTILITY\SETUP.EXE to install the utility driver. Click the OK button to start the installation process. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead.
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen.

Installing Flip touch control utility

  1. Start Windows 2000.
  2. Click Start, then click Run.
  3. Click the Browse button.
  4. Select the folder where FlipTouch Control Utility package is stored.
  5. Select Setup.exe.
  6. Click the Open button.
  7. Click OK Button.
  8. Select language when Choose Setup Language popup panel appears, and press the OK button.
  9. Press the Next button.
  10. Select the path where you want to install FlipTouch Control Utility.
  11. Click the Next button.

Installing Touch Panel driver

  1. Start Windows 2000.
  2. Extract the driver to the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start button, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.
  4. Double-click the System icon.
  5. In the System Properties, click the Hardware tab.
  6. Click the Device Manager button.
  7. Click Other Devices.
  8. Double-click Unknown device.
  9. Check Location is on Intel 82371AB/EB PCI... If correct, proceed to the next procedure. Otherwise, check the other Unknown device.
  10. Select Driver folder.
  11. Click the Update Driver button. The Update Device Driver Wizard appears.
  12. Click the Next button.
  13. Select Specify a location.
  14. Click the Next button.
  15. In the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard, click the Browse button.
  16. Specify the directory where the driver files are extracted. Then, click the OK button.
  17. Click the Next button. Setup files are now being copied .
  18. Click the Finish button.

Installing TrackPoint driver

  1. Start Windows 2000 and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Extract the driver onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.
  4. Double-click the System icon.
  5. Click the Hardware tab at the top of the System Properties window.
  6. Click the Device Manager button.
  7. Double-click Mice and other pointing devices.
  8. Double-click either IBM PS/2 TrackPoint or PS/2 Compatible Mouse whichever choice appears in the list.
  9. Click the Driver tab.
  10. Click the Update Driver button. The Update Device Driver Wizard runs.
  11. Click Next.
  12. Click Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver.
  13. Click Next.
  14. Click Have Disk and specify the directory where the driver files are extracted, the default location is C:\DRIVERS\W2K\TPOINT.
  15. Click the OK button. Then driver list appears.
  16. Click IBM PS/2 TrackPoint in the list.
  17. Click Next.
  18. Click Next.
  19. If you see the warning panel which asks if you want to replace the keyboard port driver(s) or not, click Yes.
  20. Click Finish in the Update Device Driver Wizard window.
  21. Click Close in the IBM PS/2 TrackPoint Properties window.
  22. Restart your computer to make the new settings effective.

Installing Power Management driver

  1. Start Windows 2000, and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator.
  2. Open Control Panel, then double-click on Add/Remove Hardware icon.
  3. Click Next, then select Add/Troubleshoot a device.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Select Unknown from the device list; then click Next.
  6. Click Finish; then click Next.
  7. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device; then click Next.
  8. Select Specify a location; then click Next.
  9. Specify the directory name where you extracted this package; then click OK.
  10. Click Next, then click Finish.
  11. Restart the system.

Installing Intel SpeedStep applet

  1. Start Windows 2000, logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Extract the package to the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, then click Run.
  4. In the Run dialog window, type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\SPDSTP\SETUP.EXE to install the utility. Click the OK button to start the installation process. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead.
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen.

NOTE: The following instructions are for options that may be installed in your system. Please verify which component you have and install the appropriate drivers.

Installing Lucent Modem drivers

  1. Start Windows 2000 and logon with administrative privileges
  2. Extract the drivers to the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, then click Run.
  4. Specify SETUP.EXE with the full path name where you extracted the package in the step 2 (Example: C:\DRIVERS\W2K\MODEM\SETUP.EXE), and click OK.
  5. Follow the instructions. When the message window that says Digital Signature Not Found, click the Yes button.

Installing 3Com 10/100 Ethernet Mini-PCI Adapter with 56k Modem

  1. When the system detects Ethernet or Modem, click Cancel.
  2. Run setup.exe from the lansetup directory.
  3. Leave the Yes, I want to restart my computer now. selection checked and press the Finish button on the Reboot dialog screen.
  4. Allow the system to reboot. If you need to insert the Ethernet, turn off the power and do it now.
  5. Press the Next button in the Found New Hardware Wizard Dialog.
  6. Press the Next button with Search for a suitable driver .... radio button selected.
  7. Select Specify a Location and press Next.
  8. Enter C:\winnt\options\cabs in the dialog and press OK.
  9. Press Next on the dialog that has found the driver c:\winnt\options\cabs\net556n5.inf.
  10. Press Finish. The network adapter is now installed.

Installing Modem Driver for 3COM Mini-PCI Combo card

  1. Start Windows 2000 and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Extract the drivers to the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, then click Run.
  4. In the Open field, type C:\DRIVERS\W2K\MODEM\MDMSETUP\SETUP.EXE and click the OK button. If you extracted the files to a different location specify that location instead.
  5. Press the Next button at the Welcome dialog screen.
  6. Leave the Yes, I want to restart my computer now selection checked and press the Finish button at the Setup Complete dialog screen.
  7. Allow the system to reboot. If you need to insert the modem, turn the power off the system and install the Mini-PCI Combo Modem.
  8. Press the Next button in the Found New Hardware Wizard Dialog.
  9. Press the Next button with Search for a suitable driver radio button selected.
  10. Select Specify a Location and press Next.
  11. Enter c:\winnt\options\cabs in the dialog box and press OK.
  12. Press Next on the dialog that has found the driver c:\winnt\options\cabs\wdhaibf.inf.
  13. Press Finish. The modem is now installed.

Installing Intel Priority Packet Software

  1. Start Windows.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, then click Run.
  4. Specify the installation program SETUP.EXE with full path you extracted in the step 2 and click OK.
  5. Follow instructions on the screen.

NOTE: COMx (usually COM1) may appear as a yellow exclamation point ! in the Device Manager window, because the operating system recognizes the FlipTouch Display as the communication port during the installation. However, the status of COMx is handled correctly by the ACPI mechanism later. To prevent the yellow mark from appearing, uninstall COMx as follows:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the System icon.
  3. Click the Hardware tab.
  4. Click the Device Manager button.
  5. Click the COMx that has the yellow exclamation point.
  6. Click the right button.
  7. Click Uninstall.
