| This document describes the installation procedures for Microsoft Windows 95 for your computer. NOTE: You can install Windows 95 by restoring the original preloaded image from the Recovery compact disc (CD). Using the Recovery CD, however, it will first erase your entire hard disk. If you use the recovery CD you should then check the support site for the latest drivers and utilities for your system. Overall procedure - Have the Windows 95 installation package available.
- Back up your software and personal data files that are on the hard disk to another disk.
- Install Windows 95. Follow the instructions that come with the installation package.
- Install device drivers as required.
You need to install the following drivers to ensure proper operation of your system. Click the package name to download the driver. Installing Microsoft Windows 95 OSR2.X - Copy all the cabinet files and installation programs to your hard disk.
- Make a temporary directory (for instance, C:\WIN95) and make sure enough hard disk space is available to store the cabinet files and installation programs (the required free space vary depending on the language of Windows 95).
- Copy all the cabinet (.CAB) files and installation programs from the \WIN95 directory of Windows 95 OSR2 CD. Type COPY src_cd:\WIN95\*.* destination and press Enter. Where src_CD is the drive letter of CD-ROM drive (e.g. D, E,..) and destination is the drive letter and temporary directory made in step 1-1 (e.g. C:\WIN95)
- Copy updated files from W95SUPP directory to the temporary directory
- Put the Windows 95 supplement file diskette into the floppy drive.
- From a command prompt, do the following:
- Type COPY A:\OSR2INF\*.* destination and press Enter.
- Type COPY A:\CARDBUS\*.* destination and press Enter. Where destination is the drive letter and temporary directory made in step 1-1 (e.g. C:\WIN95).
- Start Installation from the temporary directory
- Run SETUP.EXE in the temporary directory
- Refer to the Windows 95 documentation and instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
Next step is to install some fix modules on Windows 95 OSR2.X. - Install PC Card driver fix
- Run A:\QFE444\PCCARDUP.EXE.
- Reboot the system
- The last step is to install OSR 2.X. To install the OSR2.X, refer to its documentation. As for USB Supplement file update, please see \other\usb folder (Windows 95 SR2.1) in your Windows 95 backup CD-ROM.
Installing the ThinkPad device drivers Installing video driver - Start Windows 95.
- Extract the Video Features for Windows 95 onto hard disk drive.
- Click Start, then Run...
- Type C:\DRIVERS\W9X\DISPLAY\SETUP.EXE in the Run dialog window, to install the video driver.
- Click the OK button to start the installation process. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead.
- Select ATI Easy Install. When the Welcome window appears, click the Next button.
- Click Yes at the Software license Agreement screen.
- Select Express: Recommended. At the Setup Complete window, select Yes, I want to restart my computer now.
- Click Finish, then reboot the system.
Installing audio driver - Start Windows 95.
- Extract the Audio Features for Windows 95 onto hard disk drive.
- Click Start, then Run...
- Type C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO\SETUP.EXE to install the audio driver.
- Click the OK button to start the installation process. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead.
- Click Uninstall Crystal Drivers at the Crystal Audio Setup window. When prompted to Shut Down or Restart your system, click the Restart button. When Windows restarts, it will detect new hardware and bring up the "Add New Hardware Wizard".
- Click the Next button to continue.
- Select Search for best driver for your device and click the Next button. At the "Windows will search for new drivers" window, ensure only Specify a location is checked. In the box beneath, type in C:\DRIVERS\W9X\AUDIO\ . If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead.
- Click the Next button to continue. Windows will then identify the device as a Crystal SoundFusion(TM) PCI Audio Accelerator with the location of the driver set to "CWCAUDIO.INF".
- Click the Next button to continue. When copying completes, click the Finish button.
Installing Configuration Utility NOTE: - If this package is used for Windows 95, Internet Explorer version 4 or later will need to be installed.
- If version 1.14 is installed, uninstall it before installing any newer versions.
- The default installation path and folder were changed from version 1.14. If you already installed the previous version, uninstall it first or change the installation path and folder to the same as before.
- If the Battery MaxiMiser Gauge is on the task tray, the uninstall program will display the message to close PWRMONIT.DLL. If this message appears, right-click on the Battery MaxiMiser Gauge on the task bar and click Close.
- The following additional packages maybe needed: = Personalization Editor Data Diskette (if Personalization is supported)
- Start Windows 95.
- Extract the drivers onto the hard disk drive.
- Click Start, then Run...
- Type C:\DRIVERS\W9X\UTILITY\SETUP in the Run dialog window, to install the utility program. Click OK to start the installation process. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
Installing TrackPoint driver - Start Windows 95.
- Click Start, then select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
- Click the Install/Uninstall tab at the top of the "Add/Remove Programs Properties" window.
- Click IBM TrackPoint Support in the list.
- Click the Add/Remove... button.
- Restart Windows.
Installing Ultrabay 2000 driver - Start Windows 95.
- Extract the drivers onto the hard disk drive.
- Click Start, then select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Add New Hardware icon.
- Click the Next button. If prompted to search for any new Plug and Play devices, click the Next button.
- Select No, the device is not in the list when asked if the device is the list, then click the Next button.
- Select No, I want to select the hardware from a list and click the Next button.
- Scroll through the list of Hardware types and select Other devices.
- Click the Next button.
- Click the Have Disk... button. The Install from Disk window will appear.
- Type C:\DRIVERS\W9X\BAYSWAP in the "Copy manufacturer's files from:" box, and click the OK button. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead.
- Select ThinkPad Ultrabay 2000 Hot/Warm Swap Driver and click the Next button.
- Click the Finish button.
- Restart the system for the changes to take affect.
Installing Intel Speedstep NOTE: Before installing this applet, any previous version must be uninstalled from Add/Remove programs. - Start Windows 95.
- Extract the package to the hard disk drive.
- Click Start, then Run...
- Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\SPDSTP\SETUP.EXE in the Run dialog window, to install the utility. Click the OK button to start the installation process. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
Installing modem drivers NOTE: There are three types of modems for this system. Be sure to install the proper one for your system. Installing the Lucent modem drivers - Start Windows 98.
- Extract the drivers onto the hard disk drive.
- Click Start, then click Run.
- Specify the directory name with the full path name where you extracted the package in the step 2, and click OK.
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
- After the driver has been installed, shutdown and restart the system before attempting to use the modem.
Installing the Intel modem drivers - Start Windows.
- Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
- Click Start, then clck Run.
- Specify SETUP.EXE with the full path name where you extracted the package in the step 2, and click OK .
- Follow the instructions on the screen.
- Restart the system for the driver to be effective.
Installing the 3Com modem drivers - With the system powered off, insert the modem PCI card if necessary.
- Start Windows 95/98SE/98GOLD.
- Extract the drivers onto the hard disk drive. This will make two directories MDMSETUP (Modem Setup and Application Software) and MDMDISK2 (Modem Vxd Driver)
- Click Start, then click Run.
- In the Open field, type C:\DRIVERS\W9x\MODEM\MDMSETUP\SETUP.EXE to install the modem driver. Click the OK button to start the installation process. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead.
- Press the Next button on the Welcome dialog screen.
Leave the Yes, I want to restart my computer now box checked and press the Finish button at the Setup Complete dialog screen. The system will restart. - Press the OK button at the Insert Disk dialog screen.
- At the second Insert disk dialog screen, in the Copy files from: field, type c:\windows\options\cabs and press the OK button.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete modem installation.
