Use what ever means required to copy Windows 2000 I386 subdir from Windows 2000 upgrade CD onto hard drive of ThinkPad.
Click Start -> Run... Type X:\i386\winnt32 to start windows 2000 installation. (X:\ being the drive where the windows 2000 source code is located.)
Click End Task on Norton Antivirus warning.
Click Upgrade to Windows 2000 at the Welcome to Windows 2000 Setup Wizard, click Next to continue, or click Yes to continue upgrade.
Ensure that Upgrade to Windows 2000 is selected and click Next to continue.
Click I accept the Agreement and click Next to continue.
Enter the 25 character Windows 2000 Product Key, and click Next to continue.
Read all the information on the Preparing the Upgrade. Click Next when ready.
Windows 2000 will perform a hardware check, click Next when prompted.
Click No; I don't have upgrade packs , click Next to continue.
At File System upgrade. Click No, don't upgrade . (the file system can be converted after the upgrade install has finished)
Setup Information file loads.
An upgrade report is generated, this is a summarization of know compatibility issues at the time of Windows 2000 CD creation. This step will take some time, depending upon how many applications are installed on the target drive. Once the system report is generated, it will be displayed. The upgrade will find the Thinkpad ESS SOLO-1 DOS Emulation. Click Next to continue.
The Upgrade Report is now displayed for viewing and/or printing. The file can be saved as UPGRADE.TXT in the root directory of the target drive. Click Next to continue with the installation.
Click Next at Ready to Install Windows 2000.
Setup will now copy files from the installation source to the target drive. This step will also take some time depending upon the location of the installation code.
Restarting the computer occurs after the file copy has completed. The reboot is automatic.
Let Windows 2000 setup start on reboot.
MS-DOS based setup now occurs. Scandisk, deleting old windows files, copy Windows 2000 files.
Windows 2000 completes file copy and reboots.
Windows 2000 GUI starts and begins to install hardware devices. This step will also take several minutes to complete.
Networking install completes.
Windows 2000 install the required components and begins final file copy.
Windows 2000 will perform its final tasks. This portion of setup is processor and hard drive intensive and will take some time to complete. (If the Save Settings setting is reached and the machine hangs, restart the setup after attaching the floppy drive)
Final Reboot occurs. Enter new Windows NT admin password on reboot
Updating Infrared driver
Start Windows 2000. Logon with Administrative access.
Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
Click Start -> Run.
Type in C:\DRIVERS\WIN\SUPP\FIR\WIN2K\FIRPATCH.EXE in the Open box and click OK.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
Reboot the system for the driver to be effective.

Start Windows 2000 and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator.
Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
Click Start -> Run.
Type in C:\DRIVERS\W2K\DISPLAY\SETUP.EXE in the Open box and click the OK button.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
Restart the system for the driver to be effective.
Installing audio driver
Start Windows 2000 and logon with the user ID authorized as an administrator.
Extract this package to the hard disk drive.
Click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.
Double click the System icon.
Click the Hardware tab, then the Device Manager button.
