Download and install the latest flash BIOS available for your system.
Update CD/DVD-ROM firmware.
Installing Windows 2000
Insert a bootable diskette into the floppy drive and power on the computer. The boot diskette needs to contain the DOS CD-ROM drivers to access the CD-ROM drive to install Windows 2000.
Insert the Windows 2000 CD into the CD-ROM Drive.
From the command prompt, type X:\I386\winnt.exe (where X represents the drive letter for the CD-ROM drive), and press Enter to start the Windows 2000 installation.
The setup process will begin copying files to the hard drive. After this process has been completed, remove the disk from the floppy drive and press Enter to restart the system. After the Windows 2000 setup screen loads, press Enter to start the Windows 2000 Setup Wizard.
Read the Licensing Agreement for Windows 2000. If you accept the terms that are displayed, press F8 to accept the Licensing Agreement and continue with the installation process.
When asked where you want to install Windows 2000, press Enter to accept the default drive (C:).
When asked if you want to convert your file system to NTFS, click No, don't upgrade. (You can convert the file system after you successfully install Windows 2000.) The following actions will occur:
After files are copied to the hard drive, Windows 2000 will restart your computer automatically.
After this has been completed, Windows 2000 will restart your computer automatically.
The Windows 2000 GUI is displayed and you are prompted to continue the installation
Click Next to continue the installation process. Setup will now detect and install devices. This will take several minutes to complete.
The Regional Settings window will appear. Click Next to continue with the installation process.
Enter your name and organization on the next screen. Click Next when complete.
Enter the 25 character Windows 2000 Product Key and then click Next to continue.
When prompted, enter the Administrator password. When prompted, re-enter the Administrator password for verification.
When prompted, enter the required information in the Modem Dialing Information window. Click Next when complete.
Adjust the date and time settings and select the correct time zone for your location. Click Next when complete. The following actions will occur:
Windows 2000 will perform its final tasks. This portion of setup process is processor and hard drive intensive and will take some time to complete.
The computer will restart automatically.
If the system becomes unresponsive during the Save Settings portion of setup, restart the setup process of Windows 2000 after attaching the floppy drive.
When prompted, enter the Administrator password.
Installing the ThinkPad Configuration Utility
Download the ThinkPad Configuration Utility package and extract it to your hard drive. The default extraction path is C:\DRIVERS\WIN2000\UTILITY\
Click Start then Run..., type C:\DRIVERS\WIN2000\UTILITY\setup.exe, press Enter, and click OK.
Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation process.
Installing the Video Features
Boot Windows 2000 and logon with administrative privileges
Extract the drivers onto the hard drive.
Click Start then Settings and then Control Panel.
Double-click the Display icon.
Select the Settings tab.
Click the Advanced... button.
Select the Adapter tab.
Click the Properties button.
Select the Driver tab.
Click the Update Driver... button. 'Update Device Driver Wizard' starts.
Click the Next button.
Select the Display a list of the known drivers for this device so that I can choose a specific driver then click the Next button.
Click the Have Disk... button
Specify the directory where the driver files are extracted then click the OK button.
Windows 2000 finds 'NeoMagic MagicMedia 256AV' and 'NeoMagic MagicMedia 256ZX'. Select below then click the Next button.

If a warning message appears, ignore this message and click the Yes button to continue installing. Click the Next button.
If digital signature issue message appears, ignore this message then click the Yes button to continue installing. Windows 2000 copies all driver files to your system.
After driver files are copied, click the Finish button.
Click the Close button to complete installing.
Windows 2000 prompts to restart. Click the Yes button to restart Windows 2000.
Installing the Modem Driver
Start Windows 2000 and logon with administrative privileges.
Click Start button.
Specify SETUP.EXE with the full path name where you unpacked ThinkPad LT Modem II driver files and press Enter.

Installing the IBM PM Device driver
Start Windows 2000, and log on with the user ID authorized as an administrator.
Click Start -> Settings -> Control Panel.
Double-click Add/Remove Hardware icon.
Click Next, then select Add/Troubleshoot a device.
Select Unknown from the device list; then click Next.
Click Finish, then click Next.
Select Search for a suitable driver for my device ; then click Next.
Select Specify a location ; then click Next.
Specify the directory name where you extracted this package; then click OK.
Click Next, then click Finish.
Restart the system.
Installing MediMatics DVDExpress for Windows 2000 NOTE:
Use this driver only for the ThinkPad 570/E nseries.
Windows 95 version must be OSR2 or later.
Before installing, make sure that you have installed the following software in the computer:
Video Features for Windows 2000
DVD-Video Player for Windows 95/98
This package cannot be installed without the Mediamatics DVDExpress DVD-Video player installed on the system. This package is for upgrade purposes only.
Start Windows 2000, logon with Administrator access.
Extract the package to your hard drive.
Click Start then Run...
Type C:\DRIVERS\WIN\DVD\SETUP.EXE in the dialog box and click OK.
