Installing Windows Me
Notes:

  1. We recommend that you install Windows Me on a blank hard-disk partition.
  2. When you encounter a "cannot find drive C:" message or a similar error while starting up from the startup disk, you must remove the NTFS partition and recreate the partition to install Windows Me. You may also need to reformat it. Make sure you do not delete the partition used by the Product Recovery Program.

  1. Insert the Startup Disk, and turn on the computer.
  2. Insert the Windows Me CD in the CD or DVD drive of your computer.
  3. Make a temporary directory. Type the following: MD c:\winMe where winMe is whatever name you want to assign to the temporary directory.
  4. Copy all the cabinet (.CAB) files and installation programs from the Windows Me CD to the temporary directory. At the DOS prompt, type the following: COPY scr_cd:\win9x\*.* c:\winMe where scr_cd is the letter of the CD or DVD drive of your computer, and c:\winMe is the temporary directory that you made in the previous step.
  5. Run SETUP.EXE.
  6. Follow the instructions for the Install shield program.
After you install Windows Me, you will need to install the device drivers.
