Notes
  1. You should install the CD/DVD/BD writing software which supports CD/DVD/BD creation function from the ISO image file to create the BIOS Update CD.
  2. For that purpose, it is necessary to have the CD/DVD/BD writing software (with CD/DVD/BD creation function from the ISO image file) prepared separately.
  3. Any one of optical drives that are the USB types or Ultrabay Slim types for ThinkPad UltraBase of CD-RW, CD-RW & DVD Combo, DVD, DVD Multi, BD or others should be prepared. Hereafter it is called as "optical drive". (Hereafter these drives are called as "optical drive".)
    • ThinkPad internal optical drive
  4. To boot the computer from the BIOS Update CD, you should have either ThinkPad internal optical drive or USB optical drive. Any types of PC Card, CardBus PC Card or ExpressCard optical drive are not supported.
  5. To boot the computer from the BIOS Update CD, you may need to change the boot device setting in your ThinkPad computer. Refer to the "Prepare boot device" section in this document.
  6. The contents of the BIOS Update CD can not be shown by Windows Explorer.

Making a CD-R or CD-RW disc to use
This section provides instructions using the RecordNow! program to make a bootable CD. Please refer to your other product manuals when using other CD writing programs.
  1. Make sure you have a ThinkPad with a CD-RW, DVD/CD-RW combo or DVD multi drive installed. Prepare a blank CD-R or CD-RW disc.
  2. Start Windows.
  3. Download the ISO file.
  4. For Windows Vista, click Start, then click Start Search.
For Windows XP, 2000, click Start, then click Run....
  5. Specify the path where you downloaded the file, then click OK. RecordNow! or the default recording software will open.
    Example: C:\temp\7cuj26uc.iso
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen.

Prepare the boot device

Confirm that an optical drive is in the boot device list of your BIOS setup.

  1. Power off the computer.

  5. Choose Boot from the menu. Note the current boot priority order for restoration later if you need to modify your boot list.
  6. In "Boot Priority Order", make sure "USB CD" (for the USB optical drives) or "ATAPI CD0" (for the Ultrabay Slim optical drive for ThinkPad UltraBase) is on top of "ATA HDD0".
  7. Press the F3 key to exit, or press the F10 key to save the new setup and then select Yes.
  8. Restart the computer.
