This package provides the PCMCIA and USB drivers for the Portable Drive Bay 2000 device (19K4480).

PCMCIA connection:
Hardware requirements:
- IBM ThinkPad A Series, T Series, iSeries, 770, 600, 570, 560, 390, or 240 notebook computer with an available PCMCIA Type II or III slot

Software requirements:
Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows 2000, or Windows NT 4.0

USB connection
Hardware requirements:
- A computer with an available USB port
- A power adapter (included)
Additional information

Notes: This driver will automatically extract to your hard disk drive. It will only extract under Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT, and Windows 2000. The extraction process will NOT work with any other operating system.

This device may require the use of an additional interrupt resource (IRQ). It may be necessary on some ThinkPad systems to disable one feature (i.e. the hot / warm swap feature of the UltraBay, Infrared or serial port, etc.) to enable this device.

I. PCMCIA Installation instructions Microsoft Windows 95/98/Me
Note: This device requires the use of an additional interrupt resource (IRQ). It may be necessary on some ThinkPad systems to disable one feature (i.e. the hot / warm swap feature of the UltraBay, Infrared or serial port, etc.) to enable this device.

  1. Do not have the PC Card installed in the system at this time.
  2. Start Windows 95/98.
  3. Insert the PC Card for the Portable Drive Bay 2000. After the Hardware Wizard detects new hardware it will prompt you for the drivers for the new device.
  4. For Windows 95, click Next, and select Other Location . Skip to step 6.
  5. For Windows 98, click Search for the best driver for your device; then click Next
  6. In the location box, type c:\drivers\pdb2000\pcmcia\win9X, then click OK.
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
II. USB Installation instructions Microsoft Windows 98
  1. Ensure that the USB cable is disconnected from the machine.
  2. Start Windows 98.
  3. Connect the USB cable to the system. The Hardware Wizard will detect new hardware and will prompt you for the drivers for the new device.
  4. Click Search for the best driver for your device ; then click Next
  5. In the location box, type c:\drivers\pdb2000\usb\win98, then click OK .
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. If a window with the message, Unknown Device Found is displayed, repeat steps 4 to 6 to continue the installation.
III. Installation instructions Microsoft Windows NT
Attention: Windows NT 4.0 does not support PCMCIA Plug and Play. The PC card must be plugged into a PCMCIA slot during the startup process. Removing the PC card during an active Windows NT session might cause your computer to stop responding.
Note: If you are using a ThinkPad 240, go to the section labeled Windows NT 4.0 installed in a ThinkPad 240 computer.
  1. Insert the Portable Drive Bay 2000 PC Card in the PCMCIA slot.
  2. Start Windows NT and Log on with Administrative privileges.
  3. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel .
  4. Double-click SCSI Adapters.
  5. Click the Drivers tab; then click Add.
  6. The Install Drivers window opens. Insert the Portable Drive Bay 2000 Option Diskette into your diskette drive; then click Have Disk .
  7. Type c:\drivers\pdb2000\pcmcia\winnt, then click OK.
  8. Select I BM Portable Drive Bay 2000 ; then click OK.
  9. Type c:\drivers\pdb2000\pcmcia\winnt, then click Continue.
  10. After the device drivers are installed, you must restart your computer. A new drive icon is displayed in the My Computer window after your computer restarts.
Windows NT 4.0 installed in a ThinkPad 240 computer
  1. Insert the Portable Drive Bay 2000 PC Card in the PCMCIA slot.
  2. Start Windows NT and Log on with Administrative privileges.
  3. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
  4. Double-click SCSI Adapters.
  5. Click the Drivers tab; then click Add.
  6. The Install Drivers window opens; click Have Disk.
  7. Type c:\drivers\pdb2000\pcmcia\winnt_tp, then click OK.
  8. Select I BM Portable Drive Bay 2000 ; then click OK .
  9. Type c:\drivers\pdb2000\pcmcia\winnt_tp, then click Continue .
  10. After the device drivers are installed, you must restart your computer. A new drive icon is displayed in the My Computer window after your computer restarts.
Information for computers with CardWizard
This section applies only to ThinkPad computers that use the CardWizard utility. Because Card Wizard typically detects a PC card when it is inserted for the first time, follow these instructions to ensure that the drive bay functions properly.
  1. When the PC card is first plugged in, CardWizard detects it and a window opens prompting you for the card support mode. From the menu provided, select Use CardSoft Mode.
  2. The CardWizard Standard Socket Status window opens. The current status of the drive bay shows that it is unsupported. Using the right mouse button, click the slot of the drive bay; then click Properties.
  3. Click the Drivers tab.
  4. Click the box next to Change Card Driver. The Card Drive area above will become available.
  5. Click the box next to Use Plug and Play; then click OK.
  6. You are prompted to unplug the PC card and plug it back in. When you have done so, the Plug and Play setting is enabled.
IV. USB installation instructions Microsoft Windows Me
Note: Do not have the PC Card or USB installed in the system at this time.
  1. Start or install Windows Me. (The portable drive bay does not support the actual installation of Windows Me.)
  2. Connect the USB cable to the USB port. Windows Me will auto detect the card and bring up the New Hardware wizard. Click the Next button.
  3. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device; then click Next.
  4. Click Specify a location and type c:\drivers\pdb2000\usb\winme.
  5. Select Portable Drive Bay 2000 and click the Next button. The drivers will now install.
  6. When the installation completes, click the Finish button and restart the machine when prompted.
V. PCMCIA and USB installation instructions Microsoft Windows 2000
Note: Do not have the PC Card or USB installed in the system at this time.
  1. Start or install Windows 2000. (The portable drive bay does not support the actual installation of Windows 2000.)
  2. Log on to Windows 2000 with Administrative privileges.
  3. Insert the PC card into the PCMCIA slot or connect the USB cable to the USB port. Windows 2000 will auto detect the card and bring up the New Hardware wizard. Click the Next button.
  4. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device; then click Next.
  5. Click Specify a location and type c:\drivers\pdb2000\pcmcia\win2000 or c:\drivers\pdb2000\usb\win2000.
  6. Select Portable Drive Bay 2000 and click the Next button. The drivers will now install.
  7. When the installation completes, click the Finish button and restart the machine when prompted.
