With the power removed, install the modem if necessary.
Start Windows Me.
Extract the drivers onto the hard disk drive. This will make two directories:
\3Com\MDMSETUP (Modem setup and application software) and
\3Com\MDMDISK5 (Modem wdm driver)
Click Start, then click Run.
In the Open field, type C:\DRIVERS\WME\MODEM\MDMSETUP\SETUP.EXE, and click OK to start the installation process. If you extracted the files to a different location, specify that location instead.
Click the Next button on the Welcome dialog screen.
The modem will be automatically detected.
Select the Specify the location of the driver (Advanced) radio button on the Add New Hardware Wizard dialog screen.
Click the Next button on the Add New Hardware Wizard dialog screen.
Ensure the Specify a location box is selected.
Type c:\windows\options\cabs into the location box.
Follow the instructions on the screen to complete modem installation.
III. Uninstallion instructions
Start Windows Me.
Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel .
Open the System icon.
Click the Device Manager tab.
Click the + next to Modem.
Select IBM Modem (or 3Com Mini PCI 56K Modem).
Click the Remove button.
Click OK from the Confirm Device Removal dialogue box.
If asked to restart the machine, do so.
IV. Determining which version is installed
Start Windows Me.
Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
Double-click Modems.
Click the Diagnostics tab.
Select the COM port the modem is installed on.
Click the More Info button.
Scroll down to where the ATI7 command is displayed. The driver version will be displayed.
