The following files are the latest flash BIOS and readme file for certain models of the IBM PC300, type 6344 systems .

This BIOS is for 6344 systems with model numbers ending in U, F, S, or P only. These models are sold in the Americas.

This BIOS update has been provided in two formats:

  • Diskette image format - The file provided will extract onto a 3.5 inch floppy diskette. The flash procedure takes place while booting from the diskette.
  • Flash under OS format - The file provided will extract onto your hard disk drive and the flash procedure takes place from your hard disk drive.

Formatting diskette images
  1. Download the executable file from this document to a subdirectory on your system (e.g. C:\TEMP) by double clicking on the file.
  2. Insert a blank, formatted diskette and execute the downloaded file with the diskette drive letter as the argument (e.g. driver.exe a:). The system will prompt you for a formatted diskette and will extract the diskette image to the diskette. Repeat for each downloaded file.
  3. Follow the instructions in the text file provided with the BIOS file for installation.

Write-protect this flash diskette immediately after creation.

Shutdown and power off the machine and then re-boot with the flash diskette in the A: drive to update the flash BIOS.
 

Flash under OS format instructions
Download the file and save to your hard disk drive.

Extracting the update
  1. Click Start, then Find, then Files and Folders .
  2. Type the file name of the downloaded BIOS file in the search box, then click Find Now . This will locate the executable file you just downloaded.
  3. Double-click the icon for the file.
  4. Click Next. Read the license agreement.
  5. Click I Agree.
  6. Click Finish. You will be prompted with a message stating "The specified output folder does not exist. Create it?"
  7. Click Yes. You will be prompted with a message stating "The package has been delivered successfully."
  8. Click OK.
Installing the update
  1. Execute the file SETUP.EXE from the appropriate directory on your hard disk drive, then click OK. The destination directory should be C:\FlashOS\.
  2. Click Next. You will be prompted with a message stating "Setup has finished copying files to your computer. Before you can use the program, you must restart Windows or your computer. Choose one of the following options and click OK to finish Setup."
  3. Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now.
  4. Click OK. Wait for Windows to restart.
  5. Execute the file QUICKFLASH.EXE.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Select Client Mode.
  8. Click Flash System. Wait until you see a message stating "BIOS Flash Update Successful! You must reboot your system for the changes to take effect."
  9. Click OK.
  10. Click File, then click Exit.
  11. Shutdown and restart your system for the changes to take effect.
