This package installs the software (Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver) to enable the following devices.

Device name

  • Intel Mobile Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller

Note:

  • If this package has been installed, updating (overwrite-installing) this package will fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below.

Note:
Please refer to the README file under the "File details" section for a complete list of changes fixed by this driver update.

Notes
  • A Blue Screen error will come up on the Windows preload when these models boot with "Compatible" mode instead of "AHCI" that is modified from the BIOS Setup/ Config/Serial SATA menu. This is caused by an absence of a compatible driver on the Windows preload. Stay "AHCI" mode when you boot Windows preload.
  • The following setting is recommended for better performance.

[Mouse and Keyboard]

  1. Hold down the Windows logo key and press X to open a menu at the lower-left
    area of the screen.
  2. Select Device Manager from the menu.
  3. Double-click the Disk drives category.
  4. Double-click a system drive listed.
  5. Select the Policies tab.
  6. Check the checkbox next to "Turn off Windows write-cache buffer flushing on
    the device".
  7. Select OK.

[Touch]

  1. Press the Windows logo button to display the Start screen.
  2. Swipe in from the bottom edge of the touchscreen to display the App bar.
  3. Select All Apps.
  4. Select Control Panel.
  5. Select System and Security.
  6. Select Device Manager in the System section.
  7. Double-tap the Disk Drives category.
  8. Double-tap a system drive listed.
  9. Select the Policies tab.
  10. Check the checkbox next to "Turn off Windows write-cache buffer flushing on
    the device".
  11. Select OK.
Installation instructions

Note:

  • If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the software. To determine if you should update the software, refer to the Version Information section.
Manual Install

This section assumes to use Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer.

[Downloading file]

  1. Click once on the underlined file name. Once this is done, some pop-up windows will appear.
  2. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  3. In the window to choose Run or Save, click the Save button.
  4. Choose the folder you would like to download the file to and click the Save button. A different window will appear and the download will begin and complete. Once the download has completed, there may or may not be a message stating that the download completed successfully.

[Extracting file]

  1. Make sure to be logged on with administrative privileges.
  2. Locate the folder where the file was downloaded.
  3. Locate the file that was downloaded and double-click it.
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen.
  5. In the "Select Destination Location" window, click Next. If you would like to select a different folder, click Browse.
  6. In the "Ready to Install" window, click Install. All the necessary files will be extracted to the folder selected in Step 9.
  7. Uncheck the checkbox next to "Install ..... now", and then click Finish to complete extraction.

[Installing files]

  4. Double-click either of the following devices;

    • Intel(R) 5 Series 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller
    • Intel(R) Mobile Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller
  5. Select the Driver tab, then select Update Driver.
  6. Select Browse my computer for driver software.
  7. Select Browse..., then point to driver location specified in step 9.
  8. Make sure the checkbox next to "Include subfolders" is checked and select Next.
  9. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete installation and restart the computer

[Touch]

  1. Press the Windows logo button to display the Start screen.
  2. Swipe in from the bottom edge of the touchscreen to display the App bar.
  3. Select All Apps.
  4. Select Control Panel.
  5. Select System and Security.
  6. Select Device Manager in the System section.

  8. Double-tap either of the following devices;

  9. Select the Driver tab, then select Update Driver.
  10. Select Browse my computer for driver software.

  12. Make sure the checkbox next to "Include subfolders" is checked and select Next.
  13. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete installation and restart the computer

Delete the file saved in the step 4.

Determining which Version is Installed

To check the version of the device driver that is installed on your system, follow these instructions:
