This package updates two sets of the BIOSes (including system programs and Embedded Controller programs) stored in the following ThinkPad computers to fix problems, add new functions, or expand functions as noted below.
ThinkPad Edge E320 with BIOS ID 8Nxxxxxx (Upper two alphanumeric characters of BIOS ID are 8N)
ThinkPad Edge E325 with BIOS ID 8Sxxxxxx (Upper two alphanumeric characters of BIOS ID are 8S)

This program is language independent and can be used with any language system.

(Fix) Fixed an issue where forced system_off by pressing and holding the power button for over five seconds might not work.
Version 1.15 BIOS: 1.15 / ECP: 1.11
(Fix) Fixed an issue that did not resume file transfer to the USB device from standby/sleep state or re-detected the USB device after resuming normal operation from standby/sleep state.
(Fix) Fixed an issue where the computer might hang after resuming normal operation from standby/sleep state on Windows XP.
(Fix) Fixed an issue where the wireless radio would be turned on even though it was turned off by Fn+F5 key operation when all of the following conditions were met.
Press the Fn+F5 keys, then select Turn all radios off.
Shut down the computer.
Detach both the AC adapter and the battery, then wait for a while.
Attach them and turn on the computer.
Version 1.14 BIOS: 1.14 / ECP: 1.11
(Fix) Fixed an issue where the computer might boot with blank screen after the BIOS update.
(New) Added support for the Change to "F1-F12 keys" function of On Screen Display on Windows 7.
Version 1.13 BIOS: 1.13 / ECP: 1.10
(Fix) Fixed an issue that required the password when a Supervisor Password was set.

Updating the BIOS
Notes:
If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the BIOS. To determine if you should update the BIOS, refer to the Determining Which Version is Installed section.
You need an AC adapter and a charged battery pack.
If your computer is attached to any kind of port replicator, turn off the computer and detach it before proceeding.
Remove the Power-on password prior to updating the BIOS in the RDM (Remote Deployment Manager) or similar environment.
Attention: Do not turn off or suspend the computer until the update has been completed. IF YOU DO THAT WHILE THE UPDATE IS STILL IN PROGRESS, THE SYSTEM BOARD MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED.
Manual Update
This section assumes to use Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer.
[Downloading file]
Click once on the underlined file name. Once this is done, some pop-up windows will appear.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
In the window to choose Run or Save, click the Save button.
Choose the folder you would like to download the file to and click the Save button. A different window will appear and the download will begin and complete. Once the download has completed, there may or may not be a message stating that the download completed successfully.
[Extracting file]
Make sure to be logged on with administrator account on the target computer.
Make sure the AC adapter is firmly connected to the target computer.
Locate the folder where the file was downloaded.
Locate the file that was downloaded and double-click it.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
In the "Select Destination Location" window, click Next. If you would like to select a different folder, click Browse.
In the "Ready to Install" window, click Install. All the necessary files will be extracted to the folder selected in the step 10.
[Updating the BIOS]
Make sure the checkbox next to "Install ..... now" is checked and click Finish.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
Select Update ThinkPad BIOS and follow the instructions on the screen.
After the update has been completed, the program shows a message 'Flash Update has been successfully completed...'. Follow the instructions on the screen to restart the computer.
Finally delete the file saved in Step 4.
Silent Update
Note:
This procedure is intended only for system administrators. The BIOS is updated without any user interaction.
Refer to the "Manual Update" section, and download and extract the file.
In the step 12 of the "Installing files" section, uncheck the checkbox next to "Install ..... now", and then click Finish to cancel installation.
At the command line, execute WINUPTP.EXE with the -s option. Example: [Path where the files were extracted]\WINUPTP -s
To view the update result, refer to the WINUPTP.log file created at the same directory of the package.
Initializing the BIOS
Note:
After initialization you may need to reapply some settings that you had changed previously.
BIOS Initialization is suggested for some problems. To initialize the BIOS settings:
[Windows 8]
Turn on the computer to start Windows.
Hold down the Windows logo key and press C to open the Charm bar on the screen.
Select Settings, then Power from the menu.
Select Reboot to restart the computer.
[Windows 7 and Windows XP]
Turn off the computer.
Turn on the computer.
While the "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press and hold down the Fn key and press the F1 key. The ThinkPad Setup menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
Press and hold down the Fn key and press the F9 key to load default configuration.
Select Yes.
Press and hold down the Fn key and press the F10 key to save default configuration and exit.
Select Yes.
Restart the computer.
Determining which version is installed
There are two ways to check the BIOS version and BIOS ID.
Checking on Windows
[Windows 8]
Hold down the Windows logo key and press X to open a menu at the lower-left area of the screen.
Select Control Panel from the menu.
Make sure "View by Category" is selected, and select System and Security, select Administrative Tools, and then select System Information. - or -
Select Run from the menu.
Type msinfo32, and press Enter.
On the System Information window, make sure System Summary is selected in the left side of the window.
Locate the BIOS version/date line in the right side of the window. "LENOVO BIOS ID (BIOS version), date" will be shown.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
[Windows 7]
Click Start, click All Programs or Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools and then click System Information. - or - Click Start, type msinfo32 in the Start Search box and then click msinfo32 in the Programs list.
On the System Information window, make sure System Summary is selected in the left side of the window.
Locate the BIOS version/date line in the right side of the window. "LENOVO BIOS ID (BIOS version), date" will be shown.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
[Windows XP]
Click Start, click All programs, click Accessories, click System Tools and then click System Information. - or - Click Start, click Run, type msinfo32 in the Open box and then click OK.
On the "System Information" window, make sure System Summary is selected in the left side of the window.
Locate the BIOS version/date line in the right side of the window. "LENOVO BIOS ID (BIOS version), date" will be shown.
Checking on ThinkPad Setup
[Windows 8]
Turn on the computer to start Windows.
Hold down the Windows logo key and press C to open the Charm bar on the screen.
Select Settings, then Power from the menu.
Select Reboot to restart the computer.
While the "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter" message is displayed at the lower-left area or lower-center of the screen, press the F1 key. The ThinkPad Setup menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
Locate the UEFI BIOS Version line and Embedded Controller Version line. "UEFI BIOS version (BIOS ID)" will be shown on the UEFI BIOS Version line.
Turn off the computer.
[Windows 7 and Windows XP]
Turn off the computer.
Turn on the computer.
While the "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter" message is displayed at the lower-left area of the screen, press the F1 key. The ThinkPad Setup Utility menu will be displayed. If a password prompt appears, type the correct password.
Check the UEFI BIOS Version and Embedded Controller Version. "BIOS ID (BIOS version)" will be shown on the BIOS Version line.
Turn off the computer.
The following versions of BIOSes and ECPs (Embedded Controller Programs) have been released to date.
