Troubleshooting mouse, TrackPoint, or UltraNav issues - ThinkPad
Some of these steps may not apply to your computer. Test the pointing device or mouse after performing each step.
- Verify that an external mouse is connected properly to the USB PORT
- Notes:
A USB port and an operating system with USB support is required to attach a USB interface external mouse to a ThinkPad system.
- Verify that the external mouse is working properly.
- Connect the external mouse to another computer and test its functionality.
- Cleaning your mouse may help improve pointer movement with some mice that have a ball that tracks movement.
- Replacing the batteries in your mouse may help improve pointer movement with some mice that are wireless.
- Inspect the USB cable for cuts or twists. Either can lead to a non-functioning mouse
- Verify that the internal TrackPoint or UltraNav is Enabled in BIOS and in Windows.
- BIOS Instructions:
- Power on your ThinkPad
- Press F1 to enter System Setup
- Select Config, then Keyboard/Mouse
- Verify that TrackPoint and TouchPad are both set to Enabled
- Press F10 to save and exit, press enter to select yes to Save configuration
changes and exit now
- Windows Instructions:
Windows 7:
- Open the Start Menu
- Open Control Panel
- Open Hardware and Sound
- Select Mouse under Devices and Printers
- Select the UltraNav tab
- Ensure that both TrachPoint and TouchPad are enabled by placing a checkmark in the enable box.
- Windows XP:
- Open the Start Menu
- Open Control Panel
- Select Printers and Other Hardware
- Select Mouse
- Select the UltraNav tab
- Ensure that both TrachPoint and TouchPad are enabled by placing a checkmark in the enable box.
