SOLUTION:

1. Click “Start” --> "Control Panel” --> double-click “Multi-finger” icon (View by Large icons) to enter “Elan Smart-Pad” interface directly.

Or double-click “Mouse” --> click “Elan” tag in "Mouse Properties” windows --> click “Option” button to enter “Elan Smart-Pad” interface, see fig.1:

Description

Like all other standard notebook touchpad, Smart-PadTM also comes with two clickable buttons that work like any other ordinary mouse buttons. These buttons are also reconfigurable, by the drop-down combo box, to perform several simultaneous tasks.

 

Enable

Click “Enable” checkbox to activate the Smart-PadTM buttons. The configuration dropdown is only available when the checkbox is clicked.

By default, the checkbox is clicked (Enabled) and the buttons behaves just like any other ordinary mouse buttons.

 

Left Button

Default feature is Click/Select. Other available features are Maximize, Page Down, Run and so on.

 

Right Button

Default feature is Content Menu. Other available features are Maximize, Page Down, Run and so on.

To change the default feature for a particular button, simply click the dropdown next to it and select new feature.

 

4. Tapping

Description

Smart-PadTM provides fingertip movements or gesture detection that simulate all mouse button operations as well as other functions to enhance document editing

 

Enable

Click the checkbox to enable this feature.

 

One-finger (Tapping)

One-finger tapping always perform Point/Click/Select functions, which is equivalent to clicking the left mouse button.

Two-Finger

By default, “Two-Finger” tapping simulates the scroll wheel on a mouse. Additional features such as Maximize, Page Down and Run are also available.

 

Three-Finger

By default, “Three-Finger” tapping stimulates the mouse right button. Additional features such as Maximize, Page Down and Run are also available.

 

Customizing Two-Finger/Three-Finger tapping

Two-Finger and Three-Finger gestures can be reconfigured to perform other tasks. Click on the dropdown arrow to select task。

 

5. Edge Scroll

Description

 “Edge Scroll” allows users to easily scroll windows and applications with the right and bottom edges of the touchpad.

 “Edge Scroll” supports most scrollable applications such as word processing documents, spreadsheets, internet explorer and large digital images. It also works with other scrollable items, such as combo boxes

 

Enable

Select appropriate checkbox to enable “Vertical Scroll” or “Horizontal Scroll”. 

If “Edge Scroll” doesn’t respond, make sure that the appropriate check boxes are selected and that the window or item you have clicked on is scrollable.

To scroll vertically, tap the right edge of the touchpad and drag your finger up or down. To scroll horizontally, tap the bottom edge of the touchpad and drag your finger left or right.

 

Scroll Speed

Drag the slider to set the scroll speed.

 

Note:

Scroll speed slider is operable only when vertical and horizontal scrolling are enabled.

 

Scroll Area

Drag the slider to set the new scroll area.

 

Note:

The scroll area slider is operable only when vertical and horizontal scrolling are enabled.

 

6. Smart-Motion

Description

 “Smart-Motion” makes it easier for user to drag objects across the screen or move the pointer across long distance. "Smart-Motion” is workable only when “Drag” and “Tapping” are enabled.

When the user’s finger reaches the edge of the touchpad, holding finger on the edge will cause the cursor moving in that direction until the finger is lifted.

 

Enable

Select the check box to activate “Smart-Motion”.

 

Always

 “Smart-Motion” is always enabled

 

Only when dragging

 “Smart-Motion” is enabled only for dragging motions

 

Motion Speed

Drag the slider to set the “Smart-Motion” speed.

 

Note:

Scroll speed slider is operable only when vertical and horizontal scrolling are enabled

 

Slow Motion

 “Slow Motion” allows the cursor to move slowly for precise movements and fine positioning. User can activate “Slow Motion” by pressing and holding a specified key while moving the pointer.

 

Setting the specified key

Select the desired key from the combo-box menu.

 

7. “Drag and Drop”

Description

Smart-PadTM also provides a drag and drop feature, which is similar to click and hold with the left mouse button. It is done by tapping the pad twice, without remove the fingertip from the pad, with the pointer points to the object to be dragged.

 

Enable

Click the checkbox to enable this feature.

 

Release after finger lift

Release the selected object after finger lift touchpad

 

Tap again to release

Release the selected object by tapping touchpad again

 

Release after time delay

Automatically release the selected objects after the pre-defined time

 

Delay Time

Move the slider to define the new delay time

 

Note:

This option is only enabled only when the “Release after time delay” option is also enabled.

 

8. PalmTracking

Description

The PalmTracking feature guards the Smart-PadTM against operation from accidental contact. PalmTracking allows Smart-PadTM to identify and ignore accidental contact, such as palms resting on touch-pad or brushing against its surface while typing. This helps to prevent unsolicited pointer movement or click operation.

 

Adjusting PalmTracking

If the Smart-PadTM exhibits unwanted pointer movement or click operation, increase the PalmTracking sensibility setting by moving slider to the right (toward “Maximum”) but not to the extent of losing sensitivity on legitimate touches. If the Smart-PadTM becomes unresponsive to valid touches, decrease the PalmTracking sensibility setting by moving the slider to the left (toward “Minimum”).

 

In addition, right-click “Touchpad” icon in the taskbar (sometimes you need to show hidden icons to see touchpad icon), you will see “My Favorites Settings” option. Select this option to open it.
