Mouse movement is not smooth during microdrive data transfer - ThinkPad T42, T42p
Symptom

When copying files to and from the Microdrive, the mouse cursor moves more slowly.

Affected configuration

The following ThinkPad systems running Microsoft Windows XP may experience this symptom:

  • ThinkPad T42, T42p
Solution

The Microsoft driver used by Windows for the PCMCIA Microdrive is a speed limiting factor. It sets the communication with the Microdrive at a slower data transfer mode than the Microdrive is capable of. This data transfer process utilizes system resources that can affect mouse movement. For the maximum transfer speeds, it is best to not move the mouse cursor until the data transfer is complete.
