IBM USB 2.0 Memory key does not appear in BIOS startup device list - ThinkPad R51e, R52, T43/p, T60/p, X41, X41 Tablet, X60/s, Z60m/t
An IBM USB 2.0 Memory Key does not show up on the ThinkPad BIOS startup list when additional USB 2.0 storage devices are connected. It may also take longer to enter the Microsoft Windows environment with the USB memory key installed during initial power on.
Any of the following ThinkPad systems running Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows XP:
X41, X41 Tablet
any future ThinkPad systems
This is working as expected and pertains to IBM and Lenovo brand USB 2.0 Memory keys. As a workaround, remove any additional USB storage devices.
This can be seen through the following procedure:
Power off the ThinkPad.
Plug a USB 2.0 Memory Key into one of the USB ports of the ThinkPad system.
Plug another USB 2.0 Memory Key or a USB 2.0 hard drive into another USB port.
Power on the system.
Enter the BIOS setup utility by pressing the F1 key when the ThinkPad logo comes up.
Select "Startup" from the menu, and then select "Boot".
The boot order list will not show the USB Memory Key.
