IBM Rescue and Recovery with Rapid Restore - Restore from a CD or DVD backup fails if more than 3 partitions are on the hard disk drive

Symptom
In order to restore a backup stored on a CD-ROM or DVD-ROM when booting from the IBM Rescue and Recovery boot CD, a temporary partition needs to be created on the local hard disk drive. If the local hard disk drive had been configured with the maximum number of partitions (4 primary partitions or 3 primary partitions with 1 extended partition), the restore will fail. The first 3 partitions will be restored, but the final partition will not be restored.

Affected configuration
IBM systems supported by IBM Rescue and Recovery with Rapid Restore, running Microsoft Windows 2000 or XP, configured with IBM Rapid Restore Ultra

Solution
This can be solved by booting to a USB hard disk drive configured with IBM Rescue and Recovery environment and performing the restore.
