Bluescreen during boot with stop code 0x7b or "Inaccessible Boot Device" on Windows XP Home and Pro - ThinkPad T60, T60p, T61, T61p, R60, R60e, R61, R61e, X60, X60s, X61, X61s, Z61t, Z61e, Z61m, Z61p, X300
Symptom
Windows XP Home and Pro may display a bluescreen during boot with stop code 0x7b if the Intel Matrix Storage Manager (IMSM) Driver is not present.

The following ThinkPad System running Microsoft Windows XP Home or Pro may be affected by this symptom.

Solution
Power on the system and press F1 at the ThinkPad screen to enter the BIOS. Once in the BIOS, go to Config -> Serial ATA (SATA). Change "SATA Controller Mode Option" to "Compatibility". Press F10 and answer "Yes" to save configuration changes and exit. Windows should now boot properly.
Once the ThinkPad has booted in to Windows, it is recommended that the Intel Matrix Storage Manager driver be installed. To install, download the driver and follow the instructions for an update install.
