This package provides the update utility of the following Intel Active Management Technology (AMT) software.
If your computer runs satisfactorily now, it may not be necessary to update the software. To determine if you should update the software, refer to the Version Information section.
You may need to confirm with your IT administrator if you need to update Management Engine Firmware.
Before updating Management Engine Firmware, make sure to connect an AC power and fully charged battery pack to your system.
You cannot down grade Management Engine Firmware version to any older version.
To use Intel Anti-Theft Technology PC Protection (AT-p), the BIOS that supports AT-p is required.
Manual Install
This section assumes to use Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer.
[Downloading file]
Click once on the underlined file name. Once this is done, some pop-up windows will appear.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
In the window to choose Run or Save, click the Save button.
Choose the folder you would like to download the file to and click the Save button. A different window will appear and the download will begin and complete. Once the download has completed, there may or may not be a message stating that the download completed successfully.
[Extracting file]
Make sure to be logged on with an administrative account.
Locate the directory where the file was downloaded.
Locate the file that was downloaded and double-click it.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
In the "Select Destination Location" window, click Next. If you would like to select a different folder, click Browse.
In the "Ready to Install" window, click Install. All the necessary files will be extracted to the folder selected in the step 9.
[Installing files]
Open a Command Prompt with the following steps. [Windows 7 / Vista]
Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Accessories.
Right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as administrator.
Click Yes (Windows 7) or Continue (Windows Vista).
[Windows XP]
Click Start, and click All Programs, and then click Accessories.
Click Command Prompt.
In the Command Prompt, type the following command and press Enter. [Path where the files were extracted]\MEUPDATE.CMD
Read the notice on the display, and press Enter. Wait for about 3 minutes until the message "Update finished successfully" is displayed.
Close the Command Prompt window, and then shut down the computer.
Finally delete the file saved in the step 4.
Note: If the following error message is displayed, go to the "Update steps via TPM". Error <8721>: Firmware update through TPM is enabled. Use -tpm switch
Update steps via TPM
Start Windows and logon with administrative account.
Open a Command Prompt.
Move to the folder you extracted this package.
There are two cases to update ME firmware:
If TPM is Unowned, type MEUPD.CMD and press Enter.
If TPM is Owned, type MEUPD_PW.CMD XXXXXXX and press Enter, where XXXXXXX is passphrase. Example: If passphrase is "tpmpass123", type MEUPD_PW.CMD tpmpass123
Read the notice on the display, and press Enter.
Wait about 12 minutes (on Windows Vista or 7) or about 4 minutes (on Windows XP) until the message "Update finished successfully" is displayed.
Shut down the system.
Determining which Version is Installed
To check the version of software, please perform the following steps:
Make sure to be logged on with an administrator account.
Refer to the "Manual Update" section, and download and extract the file.
Open a Command Prompt with the following steps. [Windows 7 / Vista]
Click Start, click All Programs, and then click Accessories.
Right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as administrator.
Click Yes (Windows 7) or Continue (Windows Vista).
[Windows XP]
Click Start, and click All Programs, and then click Accessories.
Click Command Prompt.
In the Command Prompt, type the following command and press Enter.
Type MEInfoWin.exe and press Enter. The following information will be displayed.

If Intel Ethernet link speed setting is changed to other than the default Auto Detect such as 10Mbps/Half in Device Manager, the system cannot obtain valid IP address or IP address does not function correctly after resuming from S3.
Ping command does not wake the system from S4. The above two symptoms can be resolved by disabling Remote Configuration in MEBx with the following steps, you may need to contact your IT department for password:
Press power button and then press F12 key when ThinkPad logo screen is displayed on the screen to enter Boot Menu.
Select with cursor keys and press Enter key.
Enter "Intel(R) ME Password and press Enter key.
Select Intel(R) AMT Configuration and press Enter key.
Select Setup and Configuration and press Enter key.
Select TLS PKI and press Enter key.
Select Remote Configuration Enable/Disable ** and press Enter key.
Select DISABLED and press Enter key.
Select Return to Previous Menu and press Enter key.
Select Return to Previous Menu and press Enter key.
Select Return to Previous Menu and press Enter key.
