This package provides the Ethernet driver for DOS, OS/2, and Microsoft Windows 95/98/Me/NT4.0/2000/XP for the following network card:
- Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection (Ethernet Daughter Card)

This release supports the following IBM ThinkPad systems:
- A30/p(*4)
- A31/p(*2)(*4)
- T23
- T30(*2)(*3)(*5)
- X22, X23, X24(*4)
- X30(*2)(*3)(*4)(*5)
NOTES:
*1: The DOS driver is included only for unattended installation purpose.
*2: Windows 95 is not supported.
*3: Windows Me is not supported.
For ThinkPad T30, only the following models support Windows Me, other ThinkPad T30 models do not support Windows Me.
2366/2367-x1x, x2x, x3x, x4x, x5x, A6x and A7x except for M1x, M2x, M3x, M4x and M5x.
*4: OS/2 is not supported.
*5: Intel(R) PRO/100 SP Mobile Combo Adapter (MiniPCI Combo Card) is not supported.

I. Summary of changes
Version build 49675

  • (Fix) Running Windows 2000, under-run (runts) errors may occur on some switches caused by an Adaptive Transmit Threshold setting.

II. Installation instructions
NOTE:

Windows 98/Me
NOTE: Device drivers are located in Win9x subdirectory for Windows 95, 98, and Me.

Update install

  1. Start Windows 98/Me
  2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel. Under Windows Me, click the View all Control Panel options link.
  4. Double-click System.
  5. Click the Device Manager tab.
  6. Click the + mark to expand Network adapters.
  7. Right-click Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection in Network adapters and click Properties.
  8. Click the Driver tab.
  9. Click Update Driver.
  10. In Windows 98, click Next in the Update Device Driver Wizard dialog box and select Search for a better driver than the one your device is using now.(Recommended).
    In Windows Me, select Specify the location of the driver (Advanced).
  11. Click Next.
  12. Select Specify a location: only.
  13. Specify C:\Drivers\WIN\Ethernet\PRO100\WIN98-ME.
  14. Click Next.
  15. Click Next.
  16. Click Next. The driver installation starts.
  17. Click Finish when the installation completes.
  18. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

Clean install
NOTE:
If this is the first boot of Windows 98 after installing the Ethernet Daughter Card or the Intel Mini PCI Card in the computer, the Windows 98/Me detects the card automatically. To install the device driver, follow the instructions below.

  1. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  2. Start Windows 98/Me, the Add New Hardware Wizard dialog box is displayed.
  3. In Windows 98, click Next and select Search for the best driver for your device. (Recommended).
    In Windows Me, select Specify the location of the driver (Advanced).
  4. Click Next.
  5. Select Specify a location: only.
  6. Specify C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ETHERNET\PRO100\WIN98-ME.
  7. Click Next.
  8. Click Next.
  9. Click Next. The driver installation starts.
  10. Click Finish when the installation completes.
  11. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

NOTE: If Windows 98/Me detected the PCI Ethernet Controller, but was not able to find the correct device driver. In this case, you will see Ethernet Controller in Other devices in Device Manager. To install the driver, follow the instructions outlined in the TPNWALL.TXT file.

Windows 2000
Update install

  1. Start Windows 2000.
  2. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  3. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  4. Double-click System.
  5. Click the Hardware tab.
  6. Click Device Manager.
  7. Click the + mark to expand Network adapters.
  8. Right-click Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection in Network adapters and click Properties.
  9. Click the Driver tab.
  10. Click Update Driver.
  11. Click Next in the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog box.
  12. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended).
  13. Click Next.
  14. Select Specify a location only in Optional search locations:.
  15. Click Next.
  16. Specify C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ETHERNET\PRO100\WIN2K in the Copy manufacturer's files from: field.
  17. Click OK.
  18. Click Next. The driver installation starts.
    NOTE: After this step, the installer may display a Digital Signature not found message. Click Yes if this message appears.
  19. Click Finish when the installation completes.
  20. Restart the computer.

Clean install
NOTE:

  7. Click the + mark to expand Network adapters.
  8. Right-click Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection in Network adapters and click Properties.
  9. Click the Driver tab.
  10. Click Update Driver...
  11. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced).
  12. Click Next.
  13. Select Search for the best driver in these locations. and Include this location in the search: only.
  14. Specify the path to sub-directory PRO100\WINXP32 with the full path name where you extracted the package in the step 1.
  15. Click Next. The driver installation starts.
  16. Click Finish when the installation completes.
  17. Click Close.

Clean install
NOTE: If this is the first time to boot Windows XP, the OS detects the Ethernet Controller automatically. To install the device driver, follow the instructions below.

  1. Extract this package onto the hard disk drive.
  2. Start Windows XP.
  3. After the Found New Hardware Wizard begins select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced).
  4. Click Next.
  5. Select Search for the best driver in these locations. and Include this location in the search: only.
  6. Specify the path to sub-directory PRO100\WINXP32 with the full path name where you extracted the package in the step 1.
  7. Click Next. The driver installation starts.
  8. Click Finish when the installation completes.

NOTE: If Windows XP detected the Ethernet Controller, but was not able to find the correct device driver. In this case, you will see Ethernet Controller in Other devices in Device Manager. To install the driver, follow the instructions outlined in the TPVEALL.TXT file.

III. Determining which version is installed

To check the version of the device driver that is installed on your system:
Windows

  1. Right-click the My Computer icon.
  2. Click Find or Search.
  3. Type one of the NDIS driver names in Named: field. For example, if you are using Windows 2000, type E100bnt5.sys in the field.
  4. Click the Find Now or Search Now button. It lists the NDIS driver(s). If it does not list the NDIS driver, the Ethernet device driver is not installed in your system.
  5. Right-click the NDIS driver that is found in the Windows folder.
  6. Click Properties.
  7. Click the Version tab.
  8. Click Product Version in the Items name: field.

DOS

  1. Find the file E100b.dos.
  2. To determine if a driver update is needed, check the date of the driver file. If the date is older then 04/29/2002, then you need to update your driver.
