Plugged in but not Charging to Full Capacity under Windows 8 - IdeaPad Y480
Symptom

On IdeaPad Y480 with Windows 8 installed, battery charging is stuck at around 58% maximum battery life, with a message that the laptop is plugged in and not charging. A battery reset in the Energy Management tool is only solving this problem temporarily.

Affected configurations

The above symptom may occur on the following systems:
IdeaPad Y480

The above symptom may occur under the following operating system:
Microsoft Windows 8

Solution

This symptom could be due to a battery life optimization setting in energy management.  The Maximum battery life setting configures the battery to extend lifespan while trading off system run time / capacity.
Under Energy Management, make sure you select Optimized Battery health as this will let you charge up to 100% and will provide maximum run time per charge (in conjunction with power saver power plan settings). Maximum battery life will limit the charging up to 59% to prolong battery lifespan.
