Symptom

During startup, you may see a message "FOR EVALUATION ONLY. NOT FOR RESALE".

Affected configuration

Any of the following ThinkPad systems:

ThinkPad A31, A31p
ThinkPad R50, R50p
ThinkPad R51 (1829, 1830, 1831, 1836)
ThinkPad T40, T40p
ThinkPad T41, T41p
ThinkPad T42, T42p

Solution

This error message was inadvertently left in some versions of the BIOS. It can safely be ignored. A new BIOS will be available soon that corrects this message.

This message is only seen during diagnostic mode startup.
