This package provides the Broadcom ethernet drivers for Microsoft Windows 2000, and XP users.

II. Installation Instructions
Note: Software Installer provides install/uninstall wizard for the device driver in the following operating systems:

  • Windows 2000
  • Windows XP

Windows 2000
Update install

  1. Extract this package onto your hard drive.
  2. Start Windows 2000 and logon with administrative privileges.
  3. Click Start, select Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  4. Double-click the System icon.
  5. Click the Hardware tab.
  6. Click the Device Manager... button
  7. Double-click Network adapters.
  8. Double-click Broadcom NetXtreme Fast Ethernet or Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet in Network Adapters.
  9. Click the Driver tab.
  10. Click the Update Driver... button.
  11. Click the Next button in the Upgrade Device Driver Wizard dialog box.
  12. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended).
  13. Click the Next button.
  14. Select Specify a location only in Optional search locations:.
  15. Click the Next button.
  16. Specify the path where you extracted the driver package in step one. The default path is C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ETHERNET\WIN2K.
  17. Click the OK button.
  18. Click the Next button. The driver installation starts.
  19. Click the Finish button when the installation completes.
  20. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

Clean install - Found New Hardware Wizard
If this is the first time Windows 2000 has been started, the operating system detects the Ethernet Controller automatically. To install the device driver, follow the instructions below.

  1. Extract this package onto your hard drive.
  2. Start Windows 2000 and logon with administrative privileges. The Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box is displayed.
  3. Click the Next button.
  4. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended)..
  5. Click the Next button.
  6. Select Specify a location only in Optional search locations:.
  7. Click the Next button.
  8. Specify the path where you extracted the driver package in step one. The default path is C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ETHERNET\WIN2K.
  9. Click the OK button.
  10. Click the Next button. The driver installation starts.
  11. Click the Finish button when the installation completes.
  12. Click Yes when prompted to restart the computer.

Clean install - Ethernet Controller in Other devices
Windows 2000 detected the Ethernet Controller, but was not able to find the correct device driver. In this case, you will see Ethernet Controller under Other devices in Device Manager. To install the driver, follow the instructions below.

  1. Extract this package onto your hard drive.
  2. Start Windows 2000 and logon with administrative privileges.
  3. Click Start, select Settings, and click Control Panel.
  4. Double-click the System icon.
  5. Click the Hardware tab.
  6. Click the Device Manager... button.
  7. Right-click the Ethernet Controller in Other devices and click Properties.
  8. Click the Driver tab.
  9. Click the Update Driver... button.
  10. Click the Next button in the "Upgrade Device Driver Wizard" dialog box.
  11. Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended).
  12. Click the Next button.
  13. Select Specify a location only in Optional search locations.
  14. Click the Next button.
  15. Specify the path where you extracted the driver package in step one. The default path is C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ETHERNET\WIN2K.
  16. Click the OK button.
  17. Click the Next button. The driver installation starts.
  18. Click the Finish button when the installation completes.

Windows XP
Update install

  4. Click Performance and Maintenance and then click the System icon.
    Note: If the Classic View option has been selected, double-click the System icon.
  5. Click the Hardware tab.
  6. Click the Device Manager button.
  7. Double-click Network adapters.
  8. Double-click Broadcom NetXtreme Fast Ethernet or Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet in Network Adapters.
  9. Click the Driver tab.
  10. Click the Update Driver... button.
  11. The Found New Hardware Wizard dialog box is displayed.
    Note: In the case of Windows XP SP2, select No, not this time and next then click the Next button.
  12. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced).
  13. Click the Next button.
  14. Select Search for the best driver in these locations and Include this location in the search: only.
  15. Specify the path where you extracted the driver package in step one. The default path is C:\DRIVERS\WIN\ETHERNET\WIN2K.
  16. Click the Next button. The driver installation starts.
  17. Click the Finish button when the installation completes.
  18. Click the Close button.

Clean install - Ethernet Controller in Other devices
Windows XP detected the "Ethernet Controller", but was not able to find the correct device driver. In this case, you will see "Ethernet Controller" under "Other devices" in Device Manager. To install the driver, follow the instructions below.

  1. Extract this package onto your hard drive.
  2. Start Windows XP and logon with administrative privileges.
  3. Click Start and then Control Panel
  4. Click Performance and Maintenance and then click the System icon.
    Note: If the Classic View option has been selected, double-click the System icon.
  5. Click the Hardware tab.
  6. Click the Device Manager button.
  7. Right-click Ethernet Controller under Other devices and click Properties.
  8. Click the Driver tab.

  11. Select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced).

  15. Click the Next button. The driver installation starts.

Unattended Installation
For users who need to do an unattended installation, DOS drivers are included in the following folders in this package.

  • \NDIS2
  • \NETWARE\16BITDOS

Note: The DOS drivers can only be used for this purpose.

The information for unattended installation is included in the following folders of this package:

  • \UNATTEND\WIN2K
  • \UNATTEND\XP32

III. How to check the ethernet driver version

  1. Start Windows 2000, XP.
  2. Windows 2000: Click Start, select Settings then click Control Panel. Double-click the System icon.
    Windows XP: Click Start then click Control Panel. Click Performance and Maintenance then click the System icon.
    Note: If the Classic View option has been selected, double-click the System icon.
  3. Click the Hardware tab.
  4. Click Device Manager.
  5. Double-click Network adapters.
  6. Double-click Broadcom NetXtreme Fast Ethernet or Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet under Network Adapters.
  7. Click the Driver tab and check the driver version.

IV. Broadcom Utility install

Install

  1. Click Start then click Run.
  2. Type [Program Path]\BACS\SETUP, and click OK. The [Program Path] is the full path name where you extracted this package. The default path is C:\DRIVERS\ETHERNET.
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen.

Uninstall
Windows 2000

  1. Start Windows 2000 and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Click Start, select Settings, then click Control Panel.
  3. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
  4. Select Broadcom Advanced Control Suite 2.
  5. Click Change/Remove.
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen.

Windows XP

  1. Start Windows XP and logon with administrative privileges.
  2. Click Start and then Control Panel.
  3. Click Performance and Maintenance then click the Add or Remove Programs icon.
    Note: If the Classic View option has been selected, double-click the Add or Remove Programs icon.
  4. Select Broadcom Advanced Control Suite 2.
  5. Click Change/Remove.
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen.
