IBM Rescue and Recovery with Rapid Restore - Restore Factory contents fails after using FDisk to repartition a hard disk drive
Symptom
Restore Factory contents fails after using Windows 98 FDisk to repartition the hard disk drive. If the Recovery process does complete, the "Create recovery disc" option is missing from Access IBM in the Start menu.
Affected configurations
IBM systems supported by IBM Rescue and Recovery with Rapid Restore, running Microsoft Windows 2000 or XP, configured with IBM Rescue and Recovery
Any hard disk drive over 8GB, should be partitioned using WinME FDisk or above. Diskpart from XP is supported as well as a Partition Magic released within the past few years. Win98 FDisk corrupts the partition table of large hard disk drives in such a way that only Win98 FDisk can edit it.
If Win98 FDisk has been used to create partitions, delete the partitions created, using Win98 FDisk, then recreate the partitions using a supported utility. Additionally, any utility used to modify the partitions of a hard disk drive should be 48bit LBA Compliant. If an extended partition is being created, logical partitions must be created and formatted before any Recovery processes are run on the computer.
