TFT Flat panel Monitors - Improving the quality of text
Symptom
Text is blurry, fuzzy, or not crisp and clean on TFT Flat panel monitor
Solution
Ensure the monitor is set for the optimum resolution and refresh rate:
15" TFTs - 1024x768@60 Hz
17", 18", and 19" TFTs - 1280x1024@60 Hz
20" TFTs - 1600x1200@60 Hz
To improve the font display in Microsoft Windows XP
Microsoft has released a PowerToy tuner for Windows XP called ClearType which may improve improve the quality of the text on a TFT monitor. This, along with additional information can be obtained at http://www.microsoft.com. Search for "ClearType Tuner PowerToy" to locate and then download the applet
To install the software, double-click setup.exe, then follow the onscreen instructions. The settings of ClearType can be changed at any time via the Windows XP Control Panel.
To change the settings when using the Windows XP standard theme:
Click Start, then Control Panel, then Appearance and Themes, and launch the ClearType Tuning applet
To change the settings when using the Windows XP Classic theme:
Click Start, then Settings, then Control Panel, and launch the ClearType Tuning applet
To improve the font display in Microsoft Windows 2000
The following procedures may improve the quality of the text on a TFT monitor:
Click the Start menu item on the task bar, then Settings, then Control Panel
Double-click the Display icon
In display properties click the Effects tab
Select the Checkbox to the left of "Smooth edges of screen fonts"
