Symptom
After loading Windows 2000, when typing the logon password the asterisks that are displayed may not appear for as long as 45 seconds. Similar typing delays may also be noted with other applications in Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows XP.

Affected configuration
Any of the following ThinkPad systems running Windows 2000 or Windows XP:

• ThinkPad R40
• ThinkPad T40 (2373)
• ThinkPad X31 (2672)

Solution
Download and apply the latest ThinkPad Keyboard Customizer Utility for Windows 2000/XP version 1.17 or later.
