Cannot disable Windows firewall when Symantec AntiVirus 2005 is installed - ThinkPad General
Symptom
If the Windows firewall is disabled via Advanced Network Properties, the Windows Security Center still indicates the firewall is present. This behavior is working by design since the Symantec AntiVirus will disable the Windows firewall and AntiVirus alerts. If the Windows Security Center alerts are required, then there are two check boxes to remove during the install of Norton or Symantec AntiVirus. These two boxes are on the Security tab of the install dialog box. Removing these two boxes will allow Windows Security Center to provide alerts, and suppress the Symantec alerts.
Affected configurations
This symptom may affect any ThinkPad system running Windows XP and Symantec AntiVirus 2005
Solution
Remove the two check boxes during install or see Symantec document, 2004100414075048, for information on enabling alerts after the AntiVirus install.
