XML v4 files cannot be opened after a clean installation of Windows Vista - Notebooks
Symptom
Extensible Markup Language (XML) version 4 compliant files cannot be opened after a clean installation of Microsoft Windows Vista.

Affected configurations
Any ThinkPad or 3000 Family notebook running Windows Vista.

Solution
There is no solution for a clean installation of Windows Vista. If Windows Vista is installed as an upgrade from Windows XP, the MSXML4.dll file can still be found in the path: C:\Windows\System32.

This is due to the fact that the MSXML4.dll is bundled with Internet Explorer 6, which comes with Windows XP. When upgrading, this file is also migrated to Windows Vista.

Additional information
This is due to the design of Windows Vista. Microsoft Extensible Markup Language (MSXML) v4 is not a part of Windows Vista or Internet Explorer 7.
